The Venator
The future is here. What else would you blast Aliens with?

Would you own one? Only 4250 euros for the basic system. Venator

Old news. This technology was around in 1986. Big Grin

A pistol. Squeeze the trigger. A good old 9mm bullet comes out of a straight barrel hitting a target straight down range. Yes, "the future is here". And it was yesterday. Razz

The electronics are just an add on for this pistol. I was looking at it last week and it seems very nice. If it ever makes it to the States, I’ll have one. It’s 4250 euros without the electronic model and that’s the one I’d grab.

I was reading up on this the other day. I don't give a crap about the electronics (although I do appreciate that the function of the gun isn't dependent on them), but the engineering of the gun itself is pretty interesting. They flipped the barrel and recoil assembly so that the barrel is on the bottom for a very low bore axis, and use a rotating lock-up to further flatten the impulse. The slide also reciprocates around a fixed red dot mount, so the optic isn't moving with the slide.

I'd love to try one just to see how the theory plays out in reality...but I'll never be able to afford it.

It's very interesting... I even like the electronics.

I kinda feel like, especially with pistols, until there is a fairly radical advancement in “projectile” that even sighting tech is marginal (even though I have been running some “dots”) for a weapon generally used at short ranges/point and shoot type scenarios.

I feel like the PSD with that 7.5fk round is interesting because it almost bridges a gap between pistol and short range carbine.

It’s not that I am tech averse it’s just a juice vs squeeze thing so to speak.

Agreed. And at nearly $5000, that's definitely a lot of squeeze Eek.

Innovation in firearm designs are great. I don’t think of electronics when I think of those innovations.

The PSD is an awesome gun. So is the Field Pistol.

I’m not big on the electronics, but I love the gun’s design. Bore axis rivals the Alien’s.

I’m a big fan of boutique pistols from start up companies. You get some good and bad, but this appears to lean towards the former. Time will tell.

One of the very few “boutique” pistols so to speak that really interest me but between gun and ammo cost as well as availability even my inner NFL player at a strip club cannot justify the cost.

They are really cool pistols.

Insert old man shouting at clouds meme…

So, it’s a totally innovative, never before considered rotating barrel lock up.

Like that Steyr 1912?

But no! Wait, we put the barrel under the recoil spring!

Like Browning did with the 1899?

Not knocking the guys trying to innovate, (even though it sounds exactly like that) but I think we have pretty much hit the the wall on handheld cartridge based firearms. Add the gadgets, the electronic doo dads, new materials and new manufacturing techniques, but we have probably about figured out everything there is to figure out about making cased cartridges go bang to shove a projectile out of a barrel.

Or, I’m just grumpy, and getting impatient waiting for my phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range… (only losers settle for the 20 watt versions!)

That's exactly what I need.

"Did I charge my pistol last night?"

Roll Eyes

When batteries become microscopic or we don't need them because the electronics run off the background radiation of the universe, I'll consider it.

There’s nothing new about the design components, but much like the Alien, they put it together in a way to make the bore super low. If it shoots anything like the Alien (or even better), it will be an amazing pistol. It definitely won’t have the Alien’s heating issue.

They can keep the electronic gizmo.

What a crock of shite. $5K - If I spend that kind of money I am looking at a custom 2011, 1911 or perhaps a Laugo Alien. That electronic add on is stupid beyond belief.

Rule Number Nine - Always carry a knife, especially underwater.
