This is interesting in that HK is updating the VP9 to be optics ready and 17 round magazine. HK making an already sweet pistol even better. I wonder if the 17 round magazine will be the same size as the current 15 round magazine and it should also fit the P30 series as they currently share same magazine. https://hk-usa.com/hk-models/vp9/ "Updated for 2020: The VP9 is Heckler & Koch’s latest, and most successful pistol design. We are pleased to announce that all 2020 H&K VP 9 pistols will be shipped with the following upgrades: 17-round magazines will replace previous 15-round versions New sight configuration, which includes a high-visibility front sight and a “clean” black serrated rear Optics-ready cut with cap. Adapter plates are sold separately and are available from the HK web store. Of course, the updated models retain all the existing features of the VP that have quickly made the VP series a class leader in ergonomics and trigger performance." EDIT: From the manual about the optics mounting plates. HK webstore is showing price to be $29 each. I hope this is flush fit. Now I will need to buy a bunch of new mags for my VP9. Not minority enough!

Hope they work with the P30. Assume they should. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

HK mags have always been relatively low capacity for the size, glad to see them pressing the boundaries.

The VP9 is awesome, but I just wanted a range toy so I got the Canik. Arc. ______________________________ "Like a bitter weed, I'm a bad seed"- Johnny Cash "I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel." - Pee Wee Herman Rode hard, put away wet. RIP JHM "You're a junkyard dog." - Lupe Flores. RIP

Oh baby. I was just thinking about having a VP9 cut for an RMR to use as my competition gun. This’ll be a lot easier. And bring on the 17 round mags for my existing VP9s and P30s. Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view. Complacency sucks…

I don't truly follow HK but I like their products. I thought they had promised an optics ready VP9 several years ago so I'm unsure if this is something we can expect to actually find available? In any case I had one of my VP9's milled and mounted with an RMR and its a very nice setup but was expensive. SO hopefully one can get the factory guns. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

I would guess this is dropping very soon. VP9 has been on sale a lot lately, and they had a 4/$100 magazine sale at Christmas, probably to clear out old stock. Hopefully we'll be able to just purchase spring & follower kits to upgrade existing magazines. I'd like to run that in my comp/practice magazines for a few months to see if they're as reliable as the 15rd, which I've got at least 6000 trouble-free rounds through.

Man, I wish they’d somehow do this for the HK45

I handled a 2020 VP9 at the LGS yesterday. Here are a few of my thoughts & observations: The new 17rd mags are nice, and I see no reason why they wouldn't be compatible w/ P30s. The plastic base plate on them is 1-2mm thicker than the old 15rd mags. The new hi-viz front sight looks the same as the OEM photoluminescent sights they've been using, so it's more that they changed the rear sight to plain black Warren-style. From an aesthetic standpoint, the blank RMR cap stuck out more to me compared most other guns, such as Glock MOS models. Obviously, if you're going to run a RMR, this is moot to you, but if don't it's a little bit of an eyesore. I have a BG/2016 VP9. The new one I dry-fired at the LGS felt as if its trigger was a little lighter in pull weight. The LGS had a used VP40 in the case that the employee allowed me to dry-fire side-by-side w/ the 2020 VP9. Actually, we both did and both agreed that the 2020 model felt lighter.

The should have offered a shorter, G19 length grip with a 15 round magazine. That seems to be the sweet spot, size-wise.
