Shipping Glock grip for stippling. Login/Join

I'm thinking of shipping my Glock grip to Wilson Combat to have it stippled with their starburst pattern and a single high cut on the trigger guard. To get a prepaid both way label it's $120. That's the only option and it makes sense on higher priced 1911s, etc. but I'm just getting the grip stippled and am not looking to have $400 in this with all costs involved. WC suggested I shop shipping to them and they would return it direct to me for $30. Since it's a serialized part I have to use a FFL. My main question is, does it need to be shipped back to that same FFL or can WC ship it back direct to me? I'm just looking for my best least cost option here.

Thanks for any input.

Comes back to you direct. Why ship using an FFL? I just did it with WC by UPS on Little Rd. Pay the $120 for shipping and it eliminates the FFL.

Why would you need to ship from an FFL? WC is surely an FFL and they probably accept gun shipments from non-FFLs. You can ship common carrier and, while FedEx and UPS have their own rules about disclosing it's a gun, there's no law requiring you to do so. Obviously, they'd never pay out on an insurance claim if you didn't disclose it's a gun and ship overnight with them. Alternatively, you can use ShipMyGun and it will be a lot cheaper than going through an FFL and likely cheaper than shipping overnight on your own.

Thanks for the input. I thought a serialized part like the Glock grip requires an FFL to ship unless I use UPS Overnight through a UPS hub? If I use an FFL, then they can use cheaper options like USPS. Even the WC guy agreed $120 both ways is a lot for just some grip stippling.

Thanks. I'm on hold with them now. Maybe another CS rep will give me a better option. I was hoping to just send it USPS Priority direct from me. They would then do $30 back direct to me.

Oh, if you have a buddy who's an FFL, he can ship USPS for you. I've done that. But I wouldn't bother if they charged a fee for it. If you are not an FFL, you can only ship common carrier, but there's no law (only carrier rules) about exactly how/where you ship from. If you disclose it's a gun, then the rules kick in.

Thanks again for the input. Yeah, it's crazy getting into the whole ship from and back to an FFL and fees or the WC $120 both ways for just some grip stippling.

Individuals / non-FFL's can ship rifles through USPS but not pistols. Only FFL's can ship pistols through USPS. Shipping it direct to WC, you'd have to use FedEx or UPS which has become a lot harder than it used to be based on policies of the current administration.

As Rick Lee already mentioned, use Ship My Gun. They are owned and operated by Buds Gun Shop out of KY. For about the same price as shipping direct from FedEx or UPS you're buying a label from them and it removes any of the BS policies of the individual carrier. Buy the label, pack up your item, include a copy of your state drivers license, drop it off at a local hub, done. Very easy.
