So, I guess, at some point, this would have been considered a pretty good option for self defense. I mean, a metallic cartridge, self contained, no need for those pesky percussion caps and messy loose powder.

Not to mention, double action, crank off all six rounds as fast as you can yank that slick drop down trigger...

Pretty cool! For 1850 something...

This one is made in Eibar, Spain, a clear copy (nice word for rip off) of many French and Belgian versions. Still, very cool, and given the workmanship, clearly a higher end product.

Best part is, after purchasing, I went down the online search (Small mammal name omitted) hole and found there are kits available to make reloadable pinfire cartridges. Not sure if I am ready to drop a few hundred on making rounds for a few hundred dollar Eibar made revolver, but there is this twelve year old me deep inside that is saying "Yup. Lets go!"

Totally worth it, if just to experience shooting that thing! That has got to be one of the weirdest guns I've ever seen. You find the coolest stuff!

I thought that was pinfire when I saw the over hammer. Barrels look Damascus?

It's just a long cylinder. Dammit that is cool. And a loading gate.

Looks like it’s all plain steel. For an “Eibar” gun, it seems pretty well made. There is only a bit remaining, but the engraving on the cylinder had gold inlay.

It’s still “more or less” in time, but not sure I would consider it ready for the range even if I did cobble up some rounds!

I think the design later morphed into something called a Velo Dog. For arming bicyclists against dogs. Also first with a 7mm cartridge but centerfire. DA only and folding trigger too.
Yours is in great shape for its age. Is there anyone making ammo for it?

The ones supposedly favored by the French underworld had folding dagger blades and were known as Apaches for the largest gang.

There is a guy on THR who has laboriously made one single pinfire cartridge. He ought to get the kit.
