My primary use for guns is range toy, so I would go with the traditional sig P226 all day. I've never warmed up to the p320.

I have 2 SAO 226s, but limited rounds on either as I am waiting for parts to install to make them closer to what I think they should be (grips, magwell, threaded barrel and compensator and better sights). Still trying to justify buying an x5 too, but $$$.

I will say the x series grip is far nicer than the standard 320, but have only fondled one in the shop. No range time.

A Perpetual Disappointment...

Looking at the title, I was going to respond X5

It did not sink in that you meant a P320 and not an X5

From your two choices, it would be the P226 all day long

I have many members of the P226 family including X5s and X6s as well a pair of P320s (one with a Romeo)

I have never been a fan of striker fired pistols and the P320 has not changed my mind.

For carry my actual preference would be a DA/SA version of the P226 over the SAO. If you want an SAO, I would go for an X5 or X6 as they are works of art rendered into steel

The SAO and especially the X5/6 trigers are superb for target work

Once you shoot a SAO P226, you’ll be glad you’ve acquired it Wink

I have no expiernce with the X-5, what ever the type.

A Sig P226 SAO Legion was my holy grail of wants for a number of years... I was actually at my FFL just over a year ago picking up another Sig from one of you guys and and on the way out walked by their used 9mm counter and actually cussed... there the dern thing was... I bit the bullet, a big one for me, and came back the next day and paid cash for it. I'm not even close to the experts here and their modified 'range toys'. but the trigger on this Legion SAO has to be as close to perfect as can come out of a factory.

I have no experience with the X-5 either, but I bought a barely used Legion 226 SAO from a friend right after they first came out & that thing is sweet! Several friends have shot it & they all agree.

My Sig P226 Legion SAO IS the finest pistol I've ever owned. Period. (Beretta, HK, SW, Colt, Wilson, Baer, etc.) I can shoot this pistol better than any other gun I've ever owned. I'm probably going to purchase another one ..... just because. Sig got EVERYTHING right with this one. It will go to the grave with me.

Let me pile on to the consensus. My SAO 226 Legion is the closest thing to a perfect pistol out of the box. The only thing I want to do to is is replace the rear sight to something with a single dot of a different color. Otherwise, it is flawless, a near perfect trigger, nice size and weight, great front sights, that perfect 226 shape, insane accurate, light & small enough to carry if you want.

I’m kinda kicking myself for not grabbing a P229 SAO Legion to match.

A number of years back I was taking a class at the Sig Academy and went in the store and asked to see A P226 in SAO and I did not like it... the thing that bothered me on that display pistol was how hard it was to flip the safety down.... the guy showing it to me did say it would smooth out and lighten up over time.... but I remember wondering about that until I bought the bullet and got my legion... the only problem I have with the safety on this one is I'm just not used to one... I've been a DA/SA decoct only guy for many many years....

+1 on the P226 Legion. Absolutely love ours. We were very impressed with the fit, feel and function of ours, extremely accurate. Now we are thinking of another Legion soon, haven’t decided if we want a SA or DA/SA though. Waiting on one to show up at the LGS so we can decide.
