I recently bought a Sig P229 Elite and had a Streamlight TLR7 HL-X light mounted. I'd like to get a holster for the range that will accommodate my set-up but am totally striking out. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
The HL-X version of the TLR-7 is so new that I haven't seen any holsters specifically for that yet.
However, the similarly new non-HL TLR-7X will fit in standard TLR-7 holsters, so there are a bunch of options for that.
You may have to invest in a non-HL 7X to tide you over until holsters for the HLX become more prevalent. Or just use it without a light for the time being.
Another option might be to order a P229 w/ TLR7 holster, and then chop the bottom half-inch or so off with a bandsaw to leave the end of the light molding open. Or ask if the maker will do that for you, or otherwise mold the kydex to leave the end of the light/muzzle area open. The only difference in dimensions between the 7/7X and the HLX is the added length of the lens portion.
Warrior Concealment has a mold for the TLR 7HLX. They are making me a duty holster for a Glock 47 with that light and a red dot as we speak. It's not listed in the dropdown on the holster with the hood, but is on the open top. They will make one for the hooded retention holster if you ask.
I've got a couple holsters from them that I use on duty. Good holsters and good folks to deal with.
Other than that, you can always try reaching out to whatever holster maker you use. The only difference in the lights is the length of the bezel, so it shouldn't be that big of a deal for a maker to leave the end of the light open to the end of the slide. Worst they can do is say no.
Tier 1 Concealed and T Rex Arms are both making holsters specific to the TLR-7 HLX, including OWB holsters, however I see nothing compatible with the 229. A company called McKinaetc makes a "universal" TLR-7 holster that could probably be modified slightly to work (or I assume they will have an HLX version coming).
