Cherry Model 19
I've been trying to find a nice S&W M19 for a while now. A gentleman contacted me and offered this one. Unfortunately he has misplaced the box, but hopefully he can locate it for me. I can only find two marks on it. So it has lived a charmed life since it's production in 1972. Blue is brilliant.

I'm sorry to say that it appears to me to have been refinished. Specifically, the appearance of the rollmark on the left side of the barrel.

Naturally, I could be wrong. It could be the lighting.

The right side frame rollmarks look crisp.

Possible I guess but I don't think so. I'll try and get another shot. In person the roll mark looks crisp and clean.

The ejector rod shows typical wear, so, Im probably wrong.

Wow, that's nice! I'll skip the Pythons...to me a 4" Model 19 with target grips is the way a revolver is supposed to look. That's the pinnacle of revolver beauty right there!

I picked up a 19-4 very similar to yours in 2023. Still have yet to shoot it.

Congrats!. That gun is a honey for sure.
I'd say the finish is original. The roll marks look pretty crisp.

Beautiful gun! But I think the grips are not original. The left side grip is shaped to work with speedloaders. Mine was bought some time after 1973 and I had to do that carving myself.

Looks great. On an older S&W I can’t help but take a peek under the side-plate to inspect and likely lube. This is an older gun with unknown history.

Case in point, I have a 686 from the early 90’s, bought new. This gunsmith hasn’t been shot a whole lot. I decided to inspect it a few years back, clean but dry as a bone. One could argue about lube levels, but I’d think totally dry isn’t ideal.

It’s easy to go back a few decades older than that. Yes, watch the videos about the side-plate. I usually leave internals intact.

The grips like you are describing (with no relief cut) were used in the early 50s. By the mid to late 50s a relief cut was added. I can't say for sure cause I didn't buy it new, but I thought that they were correct for that time period. I pulled them and looked for a serial number but could not read the info clearly. The experts on the SW forum think they are correct but no real way to know.
