HK has no plans to discontinue importation of the USP. It isn’t going anywhere for now. I know the exact video OP is talking about. While it’s true that the USP’s mention definitely occurred in a weird part of the conversation, they’re not discontinuing it. What the CEO of HK USA was actually trying to get across is that it’s highly unlikely that HK Germany will focus any effort on delivering an updated USP (1913 rail, factory optics cut, etc.), despite the market's current obsession with vintage ‘80s and ‘90s hardware (as James Reeves put it).

I don’t see anything on this over at HKPro, and you think they would be all over it. It has been said they are discontinuing the P2000, and not that they are discontinuing the USP, but they aren’t doing any updates to it.

Yup. There is no need to worry.

Never said discontinue. Said no longer importing.
For ME: DA/SA=Sig 9mm or HK P30 LEM 9 Striker fired= Glock 9mm If it's a .45= 1911 Suppressed= HK in .45 I like anything in 10mm

Here is a good reason to get a USP right NOW if you're considering one. While driving today and listening to the national news on the radio, they said something about future imported goods being affected by upcoming tariffs. That got me thinking that some distributors and dealers are going to be jacking up the prices on imported firearms AS SOON AS the tariff regulations kick in. It's one thing to raise prices when that happens, but it would be really outrageous if they started doing it immediately with guns already in their inventories. We shall see...

Hmm. To SP5K-PDW or not SP5K-PDW?
That one has been on my wishlist since they came out.

He said "HK has no plans to discontinue importation".
And "no plans to discontinue importation" means "they plan to continue importing them". Not that they're going to stop importing them.
... This is exactly how wild internet rumors frequently get started. Misheard/misquoted/misrepresented statements that are then spread through social media.
Though I suppose the OP's brain just heard what it wanted to hear in order to justify his impulse purchase of a USP.

The problem with the comment in the video is that nowhere has it been said previously that the USP was discontinued. Anywhere in this video or anywhere else. Likely James Reeves meant to say USC or UMP and the CEO either misheard him or didn’t want to correct him. In any case, the USC is still listed on HK-USA’s page.
You can read this thread at HKPro, especially post #24.
That said, people can believe what they like. Buy up USPs or not.

^^^Yep. A few other users give some pretty good summaries of the context behind the USP mention. I doubt that James wanted to say USC or UMP though.

Don’t understand the argument. Straight question by Reeves with a direct answer from CEO. Where is the confusion?

When James says “is there a chance the USP could come back?”, he means “come back” as “come back in style”. That’s why he adds the context of the recent phenomenon of “80s and 90s style being back in being back in vogue” right after saying that. This is really the only logical interpretation. The USP has been in continuous production and regularly exported to the U.S. every year since its introduction. It can’t “come back” the way you mean because it’s never been gone. However, as rightfully iconic as it is, its heyday is long gone because of its chunkiness, DA/SA design, and low-ish (by today’s standards) capacity. It’s therefore unlikely that HK will ever update it meaningfully. The P30 and VP9 do everything the market wants that the USP does not do, so the only reason to update the USP would be nostalgia (nostalgia that could backfire). However, HK has a history of selling a product until absolutely no one is buying, and supporting it long after that, and the USP (even without the Bundeswehr P8 contract) is still a strong enough seller to be around for a good while longer.
Also, I hope I haven’t left you with the impression that you made a mistake buying a USP because you thought it was being discontinued. On the contrary, congrats on your purchase! I own several USPs (probably my favorite pistol) and any reason to buy a USP is a good one.

One this is for sure, the USP has to be a tough pistol. In one of his Small Arms Solutions videos, Chris Bartocci mentions the fact that the USP was designed around the 40 S&W cartridge and not around the 9mm. IIRC, when the "40 Craze" took the US shooting world by storm around 1990-91, most manufacturers took their existing 9mm pistols and adapted them to fire the 40.
If I'm not mistaken, the S&W 4006 was also designed around the 40 caliber round.

The 4006 was a beefed up 5906, which was the 9mm version that preceded the 4006 by a couple years: 1988 vs. 1990.
The frame and slide are beefed up in the .40 version, and most parts are not interchangeable as a result, but it uses the same fire control parts, firing system, and layout as its older 9mm brother.
So no, the system wasn't designed from the ground up for .40, rather being basically a spin-off from the 5906.
More akin to Glock's 17 -> 22 or Sig's P226 9mm -> .40 than HK's USP40 -> USP9.
