Poll: Your preferred handgun action for self defense?
I'm interested in where people are leaning these days in their preference on handgun actions for a defensive or fighting handgun. My preference remains with the DA/SA autoloader. Thanks for your participation. What is your preference of action for a self-defense handgun?Striker fired, ex: Glock, P320, etc.DA/SA autoloader, ex: P226, HK P30, etc.SA autoloader with manual safety, ex: 1911, Browning HP, etcDA autoloader, ex: true DAO, SIG DAK, HK LEM, etc.DA revolver with or without SA capability

I've settled on Striker fired. I prefer the short, relatively light, consistent trigger pull with no extraneous manipulation required.

I got rid of my last few DA/SA guns a few years ago, but still have a 1911 because they're awesome and every red-blooded American needs at least one. Big Grin

What no single action revolver choice!! The Duke weeps. Smile

DA/SA for me. No problem with strikers just migrated back to DA/SA 5-8 years ago and prefer them for various reasons.

I like strikers. I like DA/SA. I like appendix carry at times. I don’t like appendix and strikers at all. Personal opinion. I shoot DA/SA well so that is my preference and vote, as I fondle a 3rd gen S&W 3913 in my lap.

I like the DA/SA but carry the P365. What does that make me? Big Grin

I voted "striker" because my sidearm is a P320C, but I'd be equally comfortable with my P229, which was my previous sidearm. Both are .357 Sig.

I lean toward classic Sigs in DA/SA, but do carry a Glock on occasion, especially during the summer.

I think that's the next question - as all handguns are a compromise in one regard or other, are you choosing the 365 because of size? If there was a comparable-sized DA/SA would you carry that instead of the striker-fired 365?

I prefer the striker guns but am equally comfortable with a Beretta or a 1911.

I voted striker. But I would add an extra category for striker with safety. That would be my preference.

SA with manual safety.

I voted 'striker' ala Glock.

IMO, Glock is the current state of the art in the handgun world. They are immediately ready for action right out of the holster, eschewing the need for a manual safety. They have a consistent trigger from the first round to the last one in the magazine. Unlike legacy DA/SA designs, they don't need to be de-cocked or re-saftied prior to re-holstering.

Further, Glock specifically typically has far fewer moving parts in their action and none of those internal parts require specific hand fitting.

It's like Ken Hackathorn said and Bill Wilson agreed:

"We live in a Glock world."
