Same. I have some early 17 round mags that came with a VP9 that have red followers. I also subsequently converted some of my 15 round mags when HK had a big sale on conversion kits. Those all came with the new style black followers. No rhyme or reason as to color that I can see.

Do the black ones have the dimple on the baseplate and floor plate. That seems to be the indicator of the higher capacity.

Both my P30’s came with red, the upgrade kits were red. I don’t do the VP9 so no idea there.

I actually think the red is more for visibility in the witness holes and the swap just sorta/kinda happened around the upgrade time. That is just my personal WAG though.

Mag spring baseplate does have a dimple on the “locking lug????” That locks the baseplate on.

Well I pulled one apart again. Seems the floor plate is thicker as well. I sanded that down but while I can get 15 in, I can't get it to seat in the gun. I will sand some more top and bottom to get them to the same thickness as the conversion kits.
