Congrats Newf on a very nice pistol. I have never owned a 1911, but I lust after a Dan Wesson V-Bob. I will own one some day! I believe that every gun person should own at least one 1911 in 45ACP. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Smile

The vendor did point that part out too yup; price on this one was (at today's exchange rate) aprx $US 1400, again several hundred less that it would have cost me up here for a "regular" Specialist.

I wish I could lay hands on one of these. I like department marked guns, sort of an oddball collector's piece for me. And that's about $400 less than a normal Specialist goes for from my local guy.

How so with the "lube correct"? There was a sample of TW25 included from DW and I've been using that on all my pistols, seems to work fine Smile .

Dan Wesson's are manufactured close to me.
It's not uncommon to see employee's after work out & about in stores. (small town)
When I bought my DW PM9 it came without lube.
So the next time I saw an employee I asked what to use for lube since the local gun store didn't stock what DW recommended in the manual.
The DW employee said use Amsoil 20W-50 motorcycle oil. I didn't. I use the Castrol full synthetic 75W-90 gear lube. Aroma isn't bad and I used it without issue for the break-in period for my PM9. It's stainless, no Duty Coat finish. I'm close to 1000 rounds now with the PM9 and it hasn't had a single malfunction. The reason I used the Castrol gear lube is I have used it on my Infinity open race gun now for longer than 15 years now without any visible wear anywhere. TW25B? It works well when wet, but dries out when setting.
I no longer use it because of the drying out when setting.
Edited to add: And I'm still using the same quart of Castrol I've been using for more than 15 years.

A few days of bad weather, but finally got it out to the range today and 200 rounds through the pistol - a mixture of factory Remington and AE 124 and 147 grain and some 115(mild) and 147(warm) grain handloads. Zero issues, all mags worked fine, slide locked back on all empty mags, no malfunctions or hiccups of any kind, pistol simply ran perfectly - just as you would want. Yes the Sig worked fine too lol.

I cannot say enough about my Dan Wesson 1911s. I have parted ways with my Les Baers Eek for a Discretion, Bruin and just the other day a Wraith! Fantastic Lasers!!!Each is ALMOST the gun as the Baer or Browns. finish goes to the Browns (not by much), and accuracy, I am much more accurate with my DWs!

Wasn’t sure about this finish it first but the more I look at it play with it I love it !!

That is a very nice finish, looks good! I've heard no few people now compare the DW's very favorably with the higher end 1911's - when you take the price difference into account, they certainly seem to be good value for the money.

I became a DW convert in 2009 after having owned a wide variety of other makes of 1911s. I now have 4 and remain extremely pleased. Smile

After it was all set up and the first 500 or so (was going to be quite a bit more) were made it got canceled. For legal reasons all but a handful (I think 3 or 5, can't really remember. May be a few more) got shipped to Canada.

PS - Nice pistol Smile

I have one of these coming in and have a question for you. Would appreciate it if you could drop me a line - e-mail is in my profile. Thanks!

Which is why this thread was resurrected. Unfortunately, he had no additional info to offer.
