Yes. Having taken my 2.0 Compact apart to install an Apex kit (i didn't install a safety) one can see that there is space for a safety if you want one. I imagine one can purchase it from Smith & Wesson or elsewhere available, and just install it, taking the small rectangular tabs off and opening the grip area.

Yes. All 2.0 Compacts are set up for the safety.

If they have a safety, the safety lever, detent, and spring can be removed and the two holes in the frame plugged. Contact S&W Customer Support and they'll send you the frame plugs for free. (I did this with mine in less than 5 minutes, since the safety version was on sale for about $80 cheaper than the non-safety version.)

If they don't have a safety, the frame plugs can be removed and a safety lever, detent, and spring installed. Unfortunately, S&W Customer Support won't send you the safety kit for free. But there may be some retails who will sell those parts to you, or you could find someone who has removed their safety and doesn't need it any more.

Yep, adding a safety can be done on any M&P that has a frame that's was molded for the thumb safety frame plugs. Deleting one is easy; I did it on my 9C but S&W didn't send me the plugs for free. I had to pay for mine, and they're different parts dependent upon the side of the frame it's applied to. At the time they had one but not the other, so my 9C had to live with a hole in its left side for about 5 months before that plug finally arrived.

As Rogue stated, getting the safety parts is the real trick. S&W CS might sell them to you but it's more likely that they'll insist that the gun be sent back to them so they can insure that the parts are 'properly' installed. It's all about liability and how best to minimize their exposure.

I might leave it off this gun, I have one on my 9c and ended up dremmling off the right side, it has an apex trigger that turned out to be about 3.5 pounds so I like the safety on the gun

That my friend is not just seemingly a steal...it is a steal.

I also nabbed one of these... I just couldn’t pass it up. I get to pick it up tomorrow according to USPS tracking.

Hopefully S&W night sights aren’t the kind that I want to change immediately.

Funny thing is I ordered mine from primary arms, which I live 5 miles from, and they tell me it takes two days processing before I can pick up in store, so you will get yours before I get mine

Thanks to roguejsk I got the safety and plunger and got them installed. This is a great forum and definitely knows more about the guns than the manufacturers customer service department does!!

The safety is a bit smaller than my old m$p 9c but that is a good thing, very positive in and off
