Sig. It's a little bit of a pain, but you can buy slide blanks from the Sig online store.

Yes, the slide with striker assembly was purchased at a good price directly from SIG. I decided the gripping ridges weren’t necessary because the optic would serve as a satisfactory handle. The slide didn’t have sights either, and that was a benefit because I didn’t have to remove them (or pay extra) when installing the suppressor-height versions. I put the project together not because I was (or am) enamored with the idea of an optically-sighted pistol, but because my agency is equipping its duty handguns with optics and I wanted the least-expensive way of educating myself. I had already owned the P-1 ACRO for several years and it was also the logical choice for the setup. Other than the slide itself, the milling, the iron sights, the new holster with its G-Code mount and thumb release Nub, and various taxes and shipping costs, the project was practically free. Roll Eyes

As for the “antique,” I’ve never intended to use the setup with an actual light, and I therefore normally use a dummy that can be abused and doesn’t need cleaning. But when photographing the pistol to send a picture to Safariland, I decided to try to avoid confusion and questions by using the real version of the dummy. In the unlikely event I’d want to use a real light with the optic, it would be the TLR-7A that’s on my “house” handgun and which also works with the holster.
But don’t tell them, now. Wink

Another update.

Additional dealings with Safariland weren’t very satisfying. I sent them a series of pictures at their request, but the last time I got a response to my question about fixing the design problem it was (paraphrasing), “We don’t modify holsters and if you do it yourself that will void the warranty.” I believe I could have sent the holster back for a refund, but then I wouldn’t have had the type of holster I wanted to use with the pistol.

Perhaps I’ll ultimately hear from them again, but today I just decided to try to fix the issue myself and cut off the offending projections. The pistol with slide and ACRO fit and lock into place with no apparent problem. The result is a little more crude looking than I like, but I decided that I didn’t know enough about how the innards were attached inside the holster to risk taking things apart. I used a small saw blade with a Dremel and that allowed a good enough job.

Finally, thanks again to RogueJSK and 220-9er for the information about the ALS holsters and the suggestion about using the modeling clay to check for fit. I used the clay again today to confirm that the front lens of the ACRO isn’t contacting the plastic piece inside the holster.

Looks like a perfectly acceptable fix to me. I may have missed it....did Safariland ever say what those nubs are for or why they exist in the first place?

No explanation. The requested photos were supposedly for “Engineering,” but what they wanted to know that wasn’t apparent from the holsters and—presumably—the guns and sights they already had was never mentioned.
