Hi,

I'm a french sport shooter, and i finally bought my first Sig&Sauer ever last weekend (i am a S&W fan). I had the chance to put my hands on a vintage P226 Sig, german made for 400USD. According the serial number, it should be manufactured in 1992 ? There are only 2 marks, the Crown and the German eagle. Barrel is shiny like a mirror, and general aspects looks in very nice conditions despite a few little scratch here and there.

Do you think i got a good price, or is too pricy for this model?

Looks good!

I wouldn't have hesitated at that price point. I might have even bought a second one if it were available.

Looks to be in great shape. Congrats on your P226 and welcome to the forum!

You got a good price. P226 prices here in the states have skyrocketed over the last 4 months in advance of the US elections. Enjoy your new Sig.

Yeah, that would be about 650 where I'm at. Looks like they are treating you right.

Wow. That is beautiful.

I just got a bit home sick for the guns of the 90's. Enjoy your purchase and good on you.

Looks very similar to the 226 I just purchased for $750 plus shipping (on-line in the states). There were some added goodies - original box, manual, magazines, 3 “extra” magazines and a couple of holsters (nowhere near $350... more like $100 in goodies). Like others here, I would say you got a GREAT gun for a GREAT deal.

I don't know what used handguns generally cost in France but I have a 226 that is slightly older and I think that's a good price.

For $400 USD my credit card would have jumped out of my pocket on its own for that P226. Nice score!

Very nice indeed. Be sure to stock up on spare springs and roll pins for when they need replacement.

I think that was a very good deal. Can you tell us something about what is involved in buying a handgun in France? As a point of reference, I live in Virginia. I ordered a Sig P210 last week. The dealer called today and said it was there. So on my daily walk today, I stopped and filled out the paperwork and bought it home. Weather permitting, I am taking it to the range tomorrow. Congratulations on your new pistol, I hope you enjoy it.

You did well. Six identical guns ? were these traded in by a police department ?

If you are a shooter, rather than a collector, I would change the recoil spring since the round count is unknown.

As David Lee said, this folded slide version of the P226 and P228 are out of production. I would be a good idea to buy the necessary spare parts such as springs and roll pins to keep the gun shooting for a long time.

The best indication of the wear and round count on the P series guns is the amount of wear on the rear portion of the frame rails with the slide off. The black finish will usually be worn, if you are seeing the gold color under the black or bare aluminum it is a sign of a high round count gun.

Bienvenue ami! Nice P226 you found there. If you look on the bottom part of the slide near the end, there should be two letters. They are the date code for the year of manufacture. What are they? We can tell you exactly when your pistol was made. Salut.

Félicitations et bienvenue Sig Forum. C'est un très bon prix. Tu as bien fait. Ce pistolet a l'air bien. J'aimerais que les prix soient aussi bons ici.

What is the process for buying a pistol in France? I've looked at some jobs in France. If I get one I would still like to continue shooting.
