I don’t dislike the factory grips on the gun. I’m just thinking of trying something different. And I have an older GP100 with the rubber/wood inlay grips so....

Use: mainly I use it for a “woods gun” while knocking around the place. But I have been known to leave it strapped on for a trip to town.

What have y’all tried, what have you liked and what have y’all disliked?

Thanks in advance.

My GP had the rubber finger groove grips. I switched to the small sized factory wood / rubber grip. Carries better and fits my hand better than the finger grooved ones did.

Bendable, those are nice. While we’re at it, can i go ahead and borrow your CC for just a bit? Big Grin

YooperSigs, I have an older GP100 w/ the factory rubber/wood...or are you talking about a smaller version of those?

And I agree, the Hogue monogrip they come with now is just way too big and...well, rubbery.

I have largish hands and absolutely love the Hogue rubber finger groove grips. They are hands down the best option for me for a solid grip and control with any load the old girl can handle. No, they’re not fancy or pretty, but they work very well.

I have a GP 100 Wiley Clapp edition. Probably my favorite revolver and I have old an new Smiths, and used to have a straight up GP and kind of put me off Ruger revolvers for awhile. The standard grips are way to big. The compact insert grips that I believe are standard on SP101 centerfire guns are perfect.

I really like the smooth and rough center grips, keeps my grip firm in my hand on my Ruger GP 100 .357 Magnum 4.2" MC.

I’ve got the compact rubber grip on both my GPs, with inserts from Altamont.

Both of my GPs are 3” barreled, and the compact grip feels the best in my hand. The 4” may feel a bit front heavy with the compact grip though.

Altamont has some nice options for the price. I have some of their panels on a SP101 of mine. They are very nice, even though the patterns are not symmetrical on both sides. Not a big issue for me and I will probably buy another grip from them for my GP100.

I like the Hogue one piece rubber finger groove grips. They just fit my hand perfectly and are priced right. YMMV.

While several people have recommended the Hogue monogrip, I haven't seen anybody recommend the Hogue Tamer grip.

I shoot IDPA and used a Smith 625 for a number of years. That gun was equipped with the Tamer grip from the S&W X-frames. At that point, exclusive to S&W.

For IDPA I recently switched to a Ruger GP100 MC in 10mm, using .40 S&W. While recoil from either cartridge is pretty mild anything that can be done to mitigate recoil is an advantage. I was pleased to see that Hogue is making the Tamer grip for the GP100, and have so equipped my match gun. There is a special polymer insert at the top of the grip that really absorbs recoil - this has become even more important to me since I broke my thumb on my strong hand a couple years ago.

Certainly not pretty, but highly functional.

Figured y’all deserved an update.
My Talo Edition GP100 did not stop my search for some different grips for my Match Champion.
I wound up ordering Pachmayr’s Diamond Pro overmolded grips.

Got them in today and commenced to installing them.
They have a bushing to replace the factory grip retainer. I pushed the grip on and....the hole in the grip is 1/2 a hole off from the hole in the grips.
Well, shit.

So I called Lyman grips like it said to on the package.
They are closed due to Covid19. But I can leave a message.
Well, shit.
So I leave a message.

About a 1/2 hour later Nick from Lyman calls me back. Tells me “yeah, we had some issues with some of those”
He got my address and told me to toss the bad set once I got the new ones.

Well, cool.

The grips did feel pretty good on the gun. Too rubbery to use for concealment, I think. But they are a bit thicker than the Miculek inspired wooden grips that are on it. Not as long either, but they fill the hand nicely.
So now we wait some more.
