I grabbed a two-tone P229 in 357SIG recently. I need to get mags for it but honestly the options have me confused what works. With VA mag ban looming on 1 July, I need to get that sorted, stat.

P229 mags in .40 will work fine. I think SIG used to mark them .40/.357. Not minority enough!

Thanks - so the 229-1 moniker is relevant only for 9mm guns? I think I read that

Yes, early 9mm P229 used P228 mags, but the newer ones used P229-1 marked mags. -- I asked AI The difference between standard SIG P229 and P229-1 magazines lies entirely in their frame and magazine well dimensions:P229-1 Magazines: Designed for modern 9mm P229 pistols (and California-compliant models) that share the same wider, beefed-up frame as the .40 S&W/.357 SIG versions. They feature a wider magazine body and typically hold 15 rounds of 9mm.Legacy P229 Magazines: Made for older 9mm pistols that used the narrower P228-style frame. These have a narrower tube and hold 13 rounds of 9mm.Compatibility RulesDo not use Legacy (13-round) mags in a P229-1 frame: They will fit loosely, causing wobbling and potential feeding issues.Do not force P229-1 (15-round) mags into Legacy frames: The wider magazine tube will get stuck or will not fit at all. Not minority enough!

I bought a couple 14-rd mags for my P229 from Greg a couple months back. Some years ago, shortly after I got my P229, he had some police turn-in standard 12-rd mags and I bought several of those, too. CDNN from time-to-time has police turn-ins, and there's a member in Iowa who advertised in our classified section before Para had to shut it down. Got some from him, too, but I can't remember his name. Google "Brisk Ventures LLC", maybe he'll show up. I found a couple holsters that work well for concealing my 229, and carry it now fairly often. One is a Mitch Rosen I bought from a member here, but I can't make out any model numbers. It's OWB, FBI-cant. The other is a 1791 I found on Amazon, IWB, vertical, needed some breaking-in, but works well at 2 O'Clock. I'm carrying my Sig nearly as often as my G-19 now. -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

Reposting my build from many years back; ———— I've mentioned this project before but its finally back in my hands. Josh @ AAGW is a wizard. Shorter spring and LB replacement cycles will be in order.

At one point, my primary carry gun was an HK P2000 and P2000Sk in 357 Sig. I had an extra P2000 and several P229 in the caliber. I eventually moved over to a P2000 and P2000SK in 9mm because I shot them faster and more accurately. I’m down to one P229SL with a 40 & 357 barrel and a pile of 125gr Gold Dots should I ever decide to resurrect the cartridge. The heavy SL 229 makes shooting the 357 very easy. It’s a fun cartridge and definitely a great stopper as far as handgun cartridges go. _________________________ "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile - hoping it will eat him last” - Winston Churchil
