Great customer service from Ruger Login/Join

I’ll be brief.

Bought an early Ruger LCP in 2009. It has been perhaps the only pistol I ever owned that never had a failure of any type, but to be fair, I only had 730 rds through it. It was brutal to shoot because of trigger bite on the under side of my finger. I’d blister there in about 20 rds, and that’s never happened with another pistol even after 300.

So I went to put a Galloway Precision straight trigger in. Followed the video exactly. Put it back together, the hammer would never function after that. It would pull back but wouldn’t break. I spent 4 hours taking apart, studying, reassembling. Finally took it to my smith. He kept it a month. I called and he admitted he had spent two hours on it and couldn’t figure it out.

So I called Ruger. Explained how old it was, that it had been perfect till I took it apart, and I needed them to figure it out. The gentleman (NC service center) said they’d be happy to, and all they ask is that I pay to ship it to them. They’d pick up the shipping back. I repeated that this was all on me and I didn’t expect a free repair. He wouldn’t budge — no charge on repair. He did say to include the OEM trigger as the tech would want to reinstall that. I had planned to do so, of course.

I shipped it to them FedEx on Wednesday; forgot and left the Crimson Trace laser on the trigger guard. On Monday afternoon FedEx returned it! The frame had been warped so it got a new frame. They moved my Galloway trigger to the new frame as well as my CT laser, and sent the old frame back with it. Said they shot a box of Buffalo Bore through it to test, and all is well.

Fantastic service.

Okay, that wasn’t brief. Sorry!

They do have excellent customer service.

I installed a Galloway Precision trigger in my LCP II, and it sometimes would freeze and not pull through, so I replaced the original trigger. Installed the same style , but new trigger in my LCP Max and it worked perfectly.
I should have returned the Galloway trigger, but didn't.
Ruger has always been excellent in my dealings with them.

I'd echo that. Ruger has helped me out well in the past.

That is very unusual. I know of cases where the service department has stolen aftermarket parts and put in stock pieces because they would not take liability for them.

I have seldom heard of a defective part being returned, never a big part like a bent frame.

I had a QC problem with a Blackhawk. Ruger turned it around in 10 days, free.
I hate having to send a gun back to the manufacturer, but if you have to, Ruger and Sig are the best in Customer Service.

Great CS.

Since it's a new frame, they shipped it to your FFL, I assume? And, how the heck did the old frame get warped?

Nope, FedEx'd it to me at the house, siggy required.

No diagnosis of cause.

I guess they gave the new frame the same old serial number?

I’ll have to check — hadn’t thought about it.

Just checked. There’s a molded slot in the frame that you can read the SN through. SN is on the FCU.

From the paperwork:

Item’s replaced: Frame assembly, trigger bar, and hammer assembly.

The original frame will be in the box with the firearm.

After repair the firearm was function fired 24 rounds of Blackhills 100gr FMJ without any malfunctions (sorry, I knew it was a “B” ammo brand.)

I’ve told this story s few times here, but several years ago I bought a used Security Six for very cheap because the cylinder was binding. I called Ruger and told them that I was not the original owner but I wanted to know how much they estimated it would be to send it in. The lady told me it would be free, that Ruger warranties the gun, not the owner. She then told me that if they could not fix it, since it was an out of production model, they would sell me a new comparable GP100 at cost.

Thankfully I was able to repair the Security Six but I thought that was awesome CS.

I'd heard the same, so, when I sent my MkI in for repair, one of the problems being a botched trigger job, I expected it to come back with the stock "meh" trigger. Lo and behold: It came back with one of the best triggers I have on any pistol I own Smile

Called CS one day and asked if I could buy the rear sight blade for a target model. She wouldn't hear of me paying for it. She just snagged one, dropped it in an envelope for me, and sent it along.

The LCP has a chassis system just like the P320, so they can replace the polymer frame pretty easy and you still have the same serial number.

The one pistol that I have sent back to Ruger, they were a pleasure to work with. No charge for shipping either way. Replaced any part on the gun that had been upgraded & incorporated into newer models.

^ This...
The 'frame/grip' has a 'window' that shows the serial number on the chassis.
I stripped mine down when I sent the slide and some metal parts to CCR for 'then' Ceraplate.

I sent my LCP back for the initial recall..
They sent me a label and I shipped it to them and they were able to ship it directly back to me with signature required..
Gave me a ball cap and an extra mag (with finger ext) for the trouble...

It is still my most carried pistol...
The CCR Ceraplate looks as good as the day they plated it...

Ruger sets the standard when it comes to end-user customer service. They can go screw themselves when it comes to dealer-support CS.

I forgot about the initial recall, back in 2009. Yeah, I got the extra mag with pinky extension then also. Don't think I got the ballcap, but if I did I gave it away or pitched it.
