Well looks like SIG is trying a 2011 that takes their P320 mag.

I'm still on the hunt for a double stack 9mm 1911 style (SAO with manual safety) to buy for my 51st bday as a new carry gun. But I think SIG is a little late and will be too pricey.

I have had the following and didn't like any of them:
Springfield Prodigy 4.25"
Staccato: 2019 P, C2, C2 Duo, XC, 2024 C with full size grip
DWX Compact

I'm done shopping without trying in person. lol

At $2200 I think I'll pass. I wish Staccato would make the 2024 C with a 4.5" barrel and steel frame.

Hello Chowser,

Try a Bul Armory SAS TAC PRO 4.25. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Seems interesting enough. They'll need to tell us a bit more first.

Seemingly everything else is a 9mm because that is what sells?

The last pistol I got at that price point was an STI Perfect 10.

I like this, but I really don't need a 2011. I'm not going to carry it, and my recent foray into competition is motivated by a desire to become more proficient with my duty gear, not to achieve higher rankings with an open gun.

That said, this is the most interesting 2011 that I've seen yet, and I'd enjoy playing with it. It has some similar ergonomic features to my duty and carry Sigs, and I like that it takes 320 mags. But if I bought one it would just be a very expensive distraction from the practical goals that I'm trying to achieve.

Proof that modern manufacturing methods can be used to produce anything that looks the part. It is an M2011 in the design of a P320. Beretta did something similar back then with the M92. New wine in old bottles. Nevertheless, it looks appealing.

It's pretty ugly. It's expensive.

But it's something I'd consider, depending on reliability.

Not using proprietary mags is the best decision SIG has made on this one.

Smart move with the 320 mags.
Hey, Chowser?
What was your issue with the Prodigy? I have been considering it, given its price.

It'll sell. Staccato should be concerned between this and BUL Armory, etc.

Different market.

Staccato is pivoting pretty hard into really focusing on the duty gun market. You can say they were doing that already, but the new HD line is a significantly bigger step than the previous gun.

This gun is going to be squarely aimed at the people that are trying to buy skill. It's unlikely to see any inroads in the LE community, it's not legal for the most popular USPSA divisions and not competitive in the division in which it's legal, etc.

This will be a quasi status symbol gun for the people that want it in the short term. Knowing Sig, we'll have a dozen variants in short order. That will tell us something about it.

My Prodigy was an initial release gun that had the usual issues. I replaced the disconnector and leaf spring with EGW parts and it was fine after. But my biggest issues with the 2011s was the grip size. My issue with the DWX Compact was no rail. I did like the 2024 C but I decided I wanted the compact grip instead of the full size.

I keep getting emails from Staccato about the new HD line with the discount application stuff but the same issue with the grip size. I tried a BUL and even a GP Arms gun. For some reason my medium sized hands doesn't like large guns but for some reason I can't figure out, I am perfectly fine with the Beretta 92 guns. Smile

I'm going to see if I can find a P211 eventually to try. I got some coworkers that buy everything SIG releases. Someone had a Kimber KDS9C when they first came out. I really liked how that felt in my hand.

MSRP is 2414. It will be followed by Carry versions at some point. Shipping on this model will be July or August.

P211, like next digit after a P210, but lets add GTO for coolness.....

I know they do the numbering but this shouldn't be a P2XX at all, it should be P3211 maybe or P2011...

I’m not sure I understand the complaints that it’s too expensive. I’m not a 2011 guy, but my understanding is that if you want a reliable double stack 9mm 2011, $2k is more or less where the shopping starts.

I concur with Austin 228, calling this thing a 211 is sacrilegious and dishonors the fine reputation of the P210. When I first saw this announcement, I figured it was a double stack 210, and was disappointed. But, it’s typical for Sig, their naming is atrocious with not rhyme or reason to anything.

Another thing about the price, is this gun already comes with an aluminum lower. NOT a polymer lower. The frame is steel. I think aluminum lowers (grips) for 2011s are in the $400+ range.

The price is actually not bad for what you get.

That’s what I was thinking.

I'm seeing a troubling marketing trend with the gun makers naming their models like cars.

Last year Beretta gave us the 92GTS. Now SIG gives us the GTO. Roll Eyes

Isn't there also a Hellcat somewhere?

Smart move. If you don't like all those guns, the difference to the 211 may well be trivial and you won't like it either.

This particular gun is competition oriented, but it does have a firing pin safety so future full size/carry pistols should work well. In addition, this has an aluminum grip so Sig can lower costs quite a bit if they want to go polymer.

That price is getting lower, but the big thing that Sig is undercutting is the aluminum grip module. If you don't want to go Turkish, you're looking at the Kimber for the same price and no comp, the Masterpiece Arms 2011s at $3K, and this completely undercuts the OA Defense 2311 for $3.2K with the aluminum grip.

The good news with the P211 vs other 2011s is you should have a smaller grip with the P320 mags vs the 2011 mags that are built for .45 and modified for 9mm. This gun also has removable G10 grip panels so it's possible you can go thinner.

I posted these over on the SigNext post, but they're pretty informative.

The other cool thing about the P211 is that the 3D Printed comp can be taken off and replaced with a barrel weight so it can qualify for more divisions. They put a lot of thought into this.
