This past summer I was up in New Hampshire for a few weeks, so I made it down to the Sig Sauer Experience Center in Epping New Hampshire. A pretty amazing facility, of course everything Sig. In the past I've owned old school West German Sigs, (P220, P225, P226, and a couple of P228's). I got into a discussion with one of the gentlemen there, explaining that I like the idea of some of that magic German pixie dust on Sigs, and displayed a little "fuddishness" about newer American made Sigs. He understood, but thought the more modern versions of P series guns were better. He put it this way, "if you were planning to drive one on a regular basis, would you want a '65 Vette, or one made more recently. Point taken. Still if I saw a 30 year old P228 in really good condition, and I was so inclined, I'd buy it. Not meaning to start a debate of old versus new, that's not the point, just relaying what I thought was good customer service moment. The latter continued when I went to the range, and looked for a recommendation. They recommended I try the P226 X-5 with one of the Romeo optics, (don't remember which one). It was really fun to shoot, and between the weight of the gun, the trigger pull, the dot, and my adequate shooting skills, I drilled a nice ragged hole through the target. The cherry on top was the guys there really took care of this ole Army vet, (from when the Russians were the bad guys the first time). I really had a great time there. It caused me to look at all my old issues of Sig Arms Quarterly, and Velocity Magazine, and enjoy a little nostalgia. If you can make it up there I recommend you pay them a visit. You won't be disappointed. Best, DaveThis message has been edited. Last edited by: Sig Sauer: For Hire, "Kachi wa saya no naka ni ari" ("Victory comes while the sword is still in the scabbard")

I'm hoping to talk some buddies into taking a class or two at the Academy sometime and so we would also be able to venture into the Center..... twice I took a private class there ... force on force and it was a real eye opener as to how fast things really occur when the S#!t starts flying. Personally I would rather have the 1965 Vette. They are a damned good looking car and I can repair every part on a 65 Chevy with a manual Transmission. Hell, I can damned near do it with my eyes closed. Look at a brand spanking new Corvette and in 20 years it will be a pile of scrap, because some electronic doodad went toes up and nobody makes a replacement. I can also tell you they would not like me a bit at Sigland. Because I can remember, and still have some, when Sig Sauer had some of the finest feeling triggers made. My 239 has a trigger that it a spot on match for the trigger on my S&W revolvers, in single action that means 0.016 inch of sear creep and a break that is a glass rod snapping. Triggers on Sig's today are MUD, way too much creep and not at all smooth. I've stopped counting.

Blume9mm I hear you. I have close friends with a vacation home less than an hour north from Sig. I visit my friends regularly each summer. I plan to take a week long class at Sig Academy, either on a front end, or back end of one of these visits. Scooter 123 I get it, and though I agree with him logically, if I had my druthers, I would "rebuild" the collection I wish I'd started building in '88, all West German guns, a P226, two P228's, and a P225. Ironically enough I compiled a list of all of the guns I've owned since then, and I had this "collection," just never at the same time. Thank you Very little |
Why not own both, the collector car/sig for show and weekend rides, the newer one for daily drives... Or, you could resto mod the older sig with new internals and an optic mount LOL...

I recently saw a P228 date code is 1991. It's in really good condition, and "reasonably" priced. If I didn't have other firearm related priorities I'd buy it, and have The Sig Armorer do exactly what you mentioned.
