I bought a “stainless” (actually nickel plated) .40 caliber Taurus PT101AF in 1994. It was either my first or my second gun purchase ever, the other being a S&W Sigma .40 (the original one that got them sued by Glock). The 40 caliber craze was in full swing and no self-respecting American would consider buying an inferior Euro trash 9mm. The 1994 AWB meant that the extra 11-round mag cost me like $60 rather than the $15 it should have, but I had to have that one extra round of freedom. I shot it quite a bit back in the day but haven’t shot much .40 in about 15 years. I got it out today and tried it next to my similarly old but much less used Blue PT100AF. Both are great shooters and have been very reliable. I much prefer the frame mounted safety/decock levers over the slide-mounted Beretta version. anyway, here’s a video for any interested. https://youtu.be/dE7VEQ2rcYc --------------------------- My hovercraft is full of eels.

I had a PT back in the day, too. I abused it by carrying it while riding ATVs. Mud, water, grit and dust coated it. Never failed. I think the three position safety / decocker on the PT is a better design than the Beretta slide mount. If I run across another PT, I will buy it. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

I let mine go in a trade several years ago, but it was a great shooter. Handled the 40 caliber recoil very well.

Yeah. The only issue I ever had with mine was the rear sight pin went missing from mine in about 1997 and I contacted Taurus to try to get a new one. They made me ship them the gun on their dime to replace it LOL. But they paid shipping both ways and had it back to me in a couple of weeks with a new 25 cent roll pin installed. That pin broke or went missing again in about 2008ish I guess, maybe later… anyway I called them again and they sent me a couple pins and (IIRC) a fresh recoil spring at no cost. And I told them I bought the gun used and was happy to pay for the part. I’m a fan. --------------------------- My hovercraft is full of eels.

I've got the PT92, the 9mm version, in compact format. Found six mags on eBay for it not long ago. Fun guns.

I had a PT99AFS back in 1997. I ended up selling it. Never should have. Not minority enough!

My first pistol, before I knew anything about guns, was a PT92 in the satin finish. It felt and looked great. I only wish it was at the time they started installing the decocker. I wish Taurus would make them again.

Had a 1986 PT99AF that my boys and I enjoyed for years. It was also used to train some of their friends in handling and shooting safety. Sold it recently. David Wayland checkered Bocote grips; Hogue hex grip screws; Accu-Systems Bushing-Compensator; Bullseye Spring kit; Polished trigger, sear & barrel ramp; beveled magazine well; overtravel stop installed; Bonanza Gold highlights. I will just say it- I am a trigger snob, but not a brand snob. I have firearms from a few different makers, including a Taurus PT99AF [9mm adjustable rear sight], like Bald1 has shown. I haven't fired it [or any firearm] a lot since I got it, but I was very impressed with how smooth it felt and how accurate it was. Like Bald1, mine was a safety only model. The decocker came out in the early 1990s, but I don't recall when. Mine is not original either, as I added a Wilson Combat Beretta 92 trigger to it, a Wilson/Wolf Trigger Spring unit, and customized the Langdon Tactical trigger bar to work with it, as well as customizing Langdon Tactical thin grips to fit. Oh, and I am using the Beretta D hammer spring also, which is a bit lighter than factory. My next level of tweaks will be to get the Wilson Combat Beretta 92 hammer and adjust the sides so that it will fit. Not sure that will work right, but I have high hopes. I like to tinker and am a bit particular about trigger pulls. I have shortish fingers, so the Wilson trigger and thin grips were a must, to make DA pulls manageable. Here is mine: BTW, the Beretta 92 grips can only be modified to work on the safety-only versions of the Taurus PT92/99. The decocker versions have different locations for the grip screws on the left panel and require a different cut to slide the decocker lever down. can't do anything about the mag catch relief on the front grip edge, but I am happy with it. Sigs and Non-Sigs: I enjoy having options!
