silascopathicNickel P228 acquired today!
Snagged this sweet nickel p228 today. Came with a single 13 rnd mag.
Date code should be 95 if I am not mistaken. Still trying to determine if this is a factory (Klein) finish.
Made In Germany. Pretty clean. looking forward to shooting it. Goes great next to my 225 that I scooped up about 2 weeks ago. Pumped to finally be able to re grow my sig collection after a decade of having none!

12131Congratulations! One thing I want to mention is about the roll pins. The left side clearly shows both inner and outer pins, but they appear to have been kind of butchered. The right side only shows the outer pin. If it's not lighting effect that obscured the inner pin, then I suspect it has been fractured, and part of it has fallen out. In that case, you will need both pins new, before shooting the gun..

12131Yes, get them at Matrix. Top Gun Supply only has the outer pin in stock.

silascopathicDo you still have all your nickel 228s? That collection was wild to see.
What is your assessment of this one? Did they come nickel plated in 95?

12131Cracked the frame of one. Sold one. Still have the rest.
Yes, they did make the factory Nickel P228 in 1995. Since it sounds like you don't have the original factory case with the outer cardboard sleeve, there's just no way to say with certainty whether it's factory finish or not. I can take guess, but it's just a guess, and it's worth about 2 cents.

Mustang-PaPaWow! Nice looking 228.
As Q mentioned without the box confirmation its a guess as to the finish being Klein/factory but it looks pretty damn good to me. Seeing the nickel finish difference where the nose piece is welded on and the bottom of the slide where its hardened for the slide catch notch leads me to guess the the finish is factory.
Too bad we can’t still get old timers in Sig customer service to access the old pre 2005 data base to know for sure. I know many of us would be willing to pay a small fee for this service from Sig if they would only provide it. Either way it makes no difference in its value at this point. I would actually prefer yours over a complete one as if it was complete it would be hard to shoot and carry it. As is shoot, carry and enjoy it.

silascopathicSucks about the cracked frame! I definitely am going to be looking out for factory nickels with all the fixins including the good ol' "NICKEL" on the box. I never expected this one would be a safe queen, but I will have some eventually . it's all about the hunt for me

silascopathicThanks dude! This is why I missed this forum so much, the little things that had me wondering (finish differences) are actually ways to tell factory finish.. granted there is no way to truly tell. I just checked my 225 and the same areas also have finish differences on the bluing. So cool to see that. I love learning shit like this.
Also yes, I wish SIG had access to the old DB.. i'm sure someone does..it would be excellent for them to just publish it all online for us to use as a reference, but I am with you ... I would pay for that knowledge, especially as this collection grows.
Right now, I have the 2 above and a 226 Blackwater tactical. I also have a Nickel 220 on the way as well!

patwWhether it's original or not, that's a nice looking 228 you have there.

HK AgNice 228, looks to be in great shape.
Regarding factory nickel, I seem to recall understanding that the factory nickel models had a black/blued locking block vs nickel. But I could be wrong!
I love the feel of a nickel gun, like its cool or extra smooth, totally unique to nickel however you describe it.
Congrats again!
