Just wondering if anyone other than me is using the 290RS in their carry rotation.

I have an original P290, not the RS one, that came with the factory laser and I sometimes carry it as a pocket pistol with holster of course.

I had a 290RS for a very short time. Within 300 rounds the trigger broke and just wasn’t working.I had every intention of using it as a carry but couldn’t trust it after that. I read of others on this forum having the same trouble.

I sold it after it came back from Sig because the explanation of what was wrong was it needed an
“Adjustment” and anything that could go out of adjustment that easily might go out of adjustment at any time. Trouble was I really liked that little gun and wished it would have worked ok.

I think I put just one mag through an RS before posting the For-Sale ad.

My 290 was an early edition and after reading all the crap about not having a double strike capability I figured the pistol was made for the dumber owners. Some of the finest guns I own do not have double strike capability.

I know it's highly debatable but I've been taught that if you get a click then a tap, rack, and fire has a much better chance of hitting your target than pulling the trigger again...

I have not run a lot of rounds through my non RS P290 which I bought used... but it always seemed to work.

I have carried one every day since the RS version came out. Very easy to conceal in a holster. Light and comfortable. Goes "Bang" every time. No complaints.

I have one and I often carry it. It preforms well and I have no issues with it.

I don't have one anymore but carried one regularly for about a year. I kind of miss it, and if I came across a good deal on one, I'd probably buy another.

Thanks. Your remarks make myself and other 290 owners feel sooooo much better about ourselves.

I definitely recall claims of light primer strikes, apparently with a significant enough number of the earlier P290, being a big reason for the RS restrike modification. This didn't affect all of the pistols, but our shop found out later that we had actually sold at least a couple of these problem P290s to customers. Even without any of the reliability noise in the background I never did take any liking towards either model. Hated how much travel needed and how deep it went before the trigger would finally break to light off a round. All prior semi-auto trigger technique and fingering I used was out the window; it was much like Revolver 101, only with a comically deep break.

The sibling P250 guns were far better, even if the smallest of the lot was bigger than any P290. Much nicer and usable (to me) triggers.

I have a 290 RS. The size won me over, the trigger is exactly as described above. It’s an extreme example of why I hate Beretta’s short reach trigger. It breaks so far back as to be comically uncomfortable.

That was a lame statement about 290 owners and I apologize. I should have said I wasn't comfortable with all the hoopla about restrike capability. Apparently, Sig thought it was important and modified the guns.

I'm sorry but I'm having a problem wrapping my head around that Sig's solution to a pistol having light primer strikes was to make it so you could pull the trigger twice if that happened... that would have to be the dumbest manufacturing idea any one could come up with... would not the simpler solution be to make the firing pin spring stronger and adjust the pin?

Oh and ACP1, I liked the statement. AS I commented they must have made the restrike pistol for those that have not trained on what to do if you encounter a bad round or a light primer strike. ......

I don't think the restrike option was the fix...SIG fixed the issues and the new design included a restrike option...

I know mine worked perfectly during the time I owned it and although it was a touch heavy for me mine was accurate as a laser with nice night sights and I likened it to having a 9mm S&W Centennial...

I get where some dislike it and I agree with the longish trigger pull before the break...the guy who bought mine says he hates it and my response when I heard this was "I told you I'd buy it back for what you paid me if you end up not liking it..."...he has yet to take me up on that standing offer... Wink

I carried the original P290 for several years as a daily CC piece...found it a good, reliable gun, with acceptable accuracy for defensive use. The laser was useless, really, because the activation button was out of reach and difficult to manipulate. But the Sig night sights were better than nothing.

While I had no trouble with the P290's long trigger pull, being a 50+ year revolver shooter, I thought the weight precluded pocket carry except in a winter parka type jacket.

I replaced it with the excellent Sig P365; just about as heavy, really, but with an excellent trigger, superb sights and accuracy of a much larger "duty" sized gun.

It's become my daily choice for trips to the city...& for pocket carry where size and light weight are necessary, I use a S&W Bodyguard 380...not much of a defensive gun, with limited accuracy and a sub standard caliber, but it beats a sharp stick. ...

BTW, I easily sold the P290 for what I had in it.

Best Regards, Rod

To me it wasn’t the long trigger pull, it was that because of its size it broke way back towards your palm. Not ideal but not a complete deal breaker. What I did like was mentioned above. It came with great night sights especially for a pocket gun. Of course mine came dead but Sig sent me new ones. I’ve always hated the mentality of tiny barely useable sights in small guns. I like real sights on on my guns. Little guns can be surprisingly accurate but not with shitty sights.

I have one in 380 and love the trigger. It's about as close to a revolver trigger as I have ever found in a semi auto. Figured it would be the perfect alternate for my S&W model 67. Tiny little 90 or 95 grain bullets that are cheap to purchase and only a smidgen of powder needed. Seemed to line up as the perfect pistol for practice using very inexpensive reloads.

Just one problem with this plan. The 380 version of the P290 has the weakest ejection I have every seen on a semi. So weak that the only way to get thru a magazine without a jam was to shoot it gangsta style with the ejection port facing the floor. BTW, for those suggesting hotter ammo, I load my own and during testing I loaded some with the case 100% full with no improvement from this 14% overcharge.

I still have this POS in my collection because I just cannot sell this to any other person in good conscience.

I've stopped counting.
