Hey Everyone,

I just purchased a new old stock P224 .40
Made early June 2013, I hear some of them had issues does anyone know for sure if it was the extractor? Also what if you wear out magazine springs. Will the P229 mag springs work in the 224 mags?

Yes, extractor issues. If it will be used by you, can you send to Sig for evaluation or repair? Probably no on the mag springs but maybe there is a substitute. Plus, P229 mags will work with extensions that were sparsely available a few months ago.

Yes I have emailed them with no response yet. I could change the extractor myself but not sure if they would send me the parts.

This was a long time ago, but I got better response calling them directly than e-mailing.

229 mags will work in a 224. The grip extender can be 3D printed--I have seen those in the past.
Shoot the 224 and see if you have issues first.

The 224 is basically a compact 229. So--229 mags will work in a 224, just hangs out about 3/4 inch. The extended 224 mags are 229's with a grip extender. The 224 had some issues with the extractor pre 2013. A good cleaning and lubing before shooting is indicated for a "new" old stock gun. I haven't had issues with my 224, very nice compact platform.

My P224 SAS was made in January of 2013. I am the original owner and I've never had any problems with the extractor

I do not have any photos of my magazines with the grip adapter on them I guess I'll have to pull them out and take a few pictures

I do not own a 3D printer and I bought the grip adapters back in 2013 from a company called X grip. I seem to recall they were only about $7 or $8 so I didn't worry too much about it

DAK Sig--hammer is not exposed, so yes.
I checked my extended 224 mag--it is a 229 40/357 Sig marked mag.

Congrats on a great piece. I actually have 2 224's, one DAK and one traditional DA/SA which is a SAS model (both 9mm). It's much harder to find parts for them now so monitor midwest gun works and numrich, parts eventually turn up. Mags for these little guns are much harder to come by so constantly keep checking the listings for those. Enjoy it.

I always thought these would be a sweet little gun. I’m in CA so I can’t just get one, but it doesn’t sound like they really caught on. $100/mag is insane, but sounds like you can use P229 mags which will make it that much less burdensome. Maybe grab a few P224 mags if you plan to carry, otherwise sounds like you should just grab the P229 mags. Hopefully it works out well for ya!

The version I bought is the P224 Extreme .40
It comes with 2 flush fit 10 rnd mags and 1 12 rnd extended mag with the sleeve. SIG emailed me back and said they do still offer service for the P224. So they may still stock parts for it if they need to make a repair.

UPDATE:
Put my first couple hundred through it today and it was flawless. So happy with it and that I got a good working one. Favorite sub compact I have shot. Love this gun.

I have 2 P224's. My 9MM DA/SA has been flawless. I picked up a 40S&W DA/SA that had gone back to SIG for issues. I swapped the barrel to 357SIG and it has also been flawless.
