longjohn1911 Question
Bought a Dan Wesson Specialist Commander in 9mm. Have about 400 rounds thru it.One failure to lock back on empty mag, and one failure to go into battery so running pretty well. I actually do the 500 round break in pursuant to the manual and have all my others running 100%.
My question is about the extractor. It has a little play in it, kind of back and forth if i push on it side to side. Is this normal ??
I do alot of shooting but not super mechanically inclined so just wanted the advice i know alot on this forum have.
Thanks

TheFrontRangeGreetings - do you mean the extractor (a part removable from the slide) or the ejector (a part mounted to the frame)? I suspect you’re referring to the ejector - if so, a bit of play there should not pose a major issue, in my experience.

longjohnNope the extractor. The ejector is rock solid.

FredwardThe extractor is a "claw" or hook that pulls casings out by their rims. In my experience, it has a bit of spring tension in it and swivels very slightly as the gun cycles. That's how it manages to slide over the rim. If it had no flex, it wouldn't work. I have had them lose flex over time, and had to replace them.

jimmy123xYes, the extractor should have some play. Run it fairly wet with oil on the slides/frame rails, locking lugs, and barrel bushing to barrel area's...... Also see if it hangs up with 1 magazine or the other......The ejector should be rock solid on the ones I have they all are.

longjohnThanks-seems to be working fine. Just moved a little more than on my 10mm Dan Wessons.
