I got my Walther out of the safe for the first time in a long time. It was very difficult to separate the slide from the frame. A friend was here and he has very strong hands and he couldn't get it apart.
Any suggestions?

Trooper JoeMaybe you installed a new Wolff recoil spring without grinding the forward coil slightly. Could be other reasons but this just happened to me.

You're pulling down on the trigger guard first, right?

Yeah, it'll have enough lateral play once pulled down to allow it to move to one side or the other and then you can leave it in place, pulled down. Pull the slide up and forward to clear the barrel. You might spray some lube down the exterior of the barrel before you start trying to pull the slide off as it can bind a little if dry.
You
did remove the mag first right?
