flesheatingvirusThe 40th Anniversary P226 is coming
I wonder if it comes with gold controls as an option.
Seriously, though, that is sharp.

lot_45I was trying Google to see if there are any pictures of one in the wild yet. This showed up:

12131^^^ No different than one
para posted on p. 3. These are just samples SIG sent to these bloggers to test and then rave review. I will consider it wild, when it's actually out on the market for the end consumers.

They just hit the distributors today for anyone looking for one.

.38supersigI found a pic of one in the wild if this helps:

parabellumThe cutout for the pistol is far too big, compared to the original.
July 13, 2024, 08:39 PM
.38supersigI thought so too.
Maybe the packaging department thought/was given a 40th P226 with a tail?
July 13, 2024, 09:12 PM
parabellumA cutout in foam should be one of the easiest things to get right.
July 13, 2024, 09:36 PM
OttoSigAlmost as if the person creating the cutout assumed it had a beaver tail.
Just pure seasoning maybe.

moorecd3Oh my! I want to like that box it came in but that was a swing and a miss if they are trying to replicate the original. Still want one though.

12131That's not a beavertail cut. Not even close. They simply screwed up.

MacGyverInteresting how it isn’t actually red foam either like the old ones. It’s just grey foam with (what appears to be) red felt on the surface. Not that I care (I’m just glad SIG is making a no-rail, no-tail, short-extractor P226 again, so who cares about the box?)
July 14, 2024, 05:33 AM
BroadsideI would really like one of these. I’ll need to see what the prices ultimately settle at once the initial fan fair dies down.
I’m looking at it as a shooter and not a collector piece. I know this would be sacrilege to many on here, but I would swap out the grips for E2 grips.

.38supersigThe only other reason I can think of for the foam cut out is if they were thinking it would be stored with a plastic chamber spacer in the barrel.
That would leave the hammer down and the slide moved back about 3/4" or so? They didn't have that with my P226 from 1983.
July 14, 2024, 02:47 PM
MacGyver^^^That's possible, but then they should have made a longer section for the front sight. With the slide partially retracted, it seems as though the front sight will start digging into the foam behind it.

Looking at the picture, that cut-out appears to be the same size they use in their current boxes/cases.
This leads me to believe that they simply glued a red piece of felt to the top and used their current jig for cutting.
Honestly, while not true to the original, I still it is a better way to go. I think the current foam will hold up much better than the original.
Just my $0.02, but I think Sig stayed true-enough to the original on this one.

parabellumWhy go through the trouble of recreating the original box if you're not going to recreate the shape of the original insert?
Some will consider this to be nitpicking, but it's not. I wouldn't care if they put the pistol in a plastic case, but if you're going to do something, why half-ass it?

kaschiExactly! Let's hope that the pic that .38supersig provided was a fluke incident by a 2nd shift worker dying to get out of the factory that day.

OttoSigI’d wager Sig isn’t cutting foam inserts in house, this wasn’t a one off. They likely ordered 10k+ like this.
I hope I’m wrong. But I doubt it.

FPNunesHas anyone come across a solid street date for these yet???
Would kill for a reissue of the old school P225 as well...
Save the whales. Redeem them for valuable prizes...
