Yeah, I found out they were initially wanting officers to remove them altogether, but apparently have settled on having the guest instructors check and verify every so often that they are turned off. It's the same stupid arguments...it could break, the battery could die, it could fog up, etc. Ok, that's all true...teach them how to deal with that if it happens. Don't just pretend the thing isn't there. That's a week's pay plus ammo and tuition out of our budget (and tax dollars) having a trainee not get taught how to use the equipment we issued them

.
It's 2025. I don't think there's an agency left in our county that isn't using optics. We can't keep teaching them like it's 2005.

The analogy that helped me was to treat the dot as you would the mouse pointer on your computer screen. You don't chase the pointer around the screen as you move it, do you? No, you focus on what you're looking at on screen and move the pointer to it until it lines up on what you want.

Last guy we sent to Ohio State Patrol academy, they told him he'd have to remove the optic off his issued gun and blue gun. I actually mounted an RMR on the blue gun so he'd have consistent practice but was told no go. We're sending another one to the same academy next week. I'm going to send him with an optic and see what happens. Maybe something has changed this year.

pedropcolaI just shot my new G19 COA this morning.
It shot to POA with absolutely no adjustments. My range was packed so we got one of the shorter bays and had a 6 plate falling steel rack and I placed an IDPA backer with target circles for “paper”. 10 yards by my very generous footsteps.
Shot well as expected. I do agree gen5 glocks are out of the box better than my previous iterations. Trigger was nice, sights are cowitnessed down low in the window, great optic in my opinion. Unless something pops up I think this is my favorite optic of any I’ve owned.
I also used this opportunity to use the new MecGar mags. Well that was boring. They worked perfectly and didn’t drop out of my gun which the internet seems to think happens a lot. Well the 2 I brought did no such thing.
This is a great gun/optic combo. Now I want a 48COA.

I brought three and no luck getting them to drop out. I tried to pull them out and even slung the gun around a bit (unloaded of course) while holding on to just the mag.

pedropcolaJust my opinion but I suspect that many of the dropped mags are a result of old, worn, or aftermarket mag catches. I only say that because I have shot them in one Glock and physically manipulated them in multiple glocks and I see no way they are just dropping out of any of my glocks at least.
I would buy mecgar 48 mags sight unseen. That will be the metal Glock mag sweet spot.

Black92LXFinally got to take the Pistol Mounted Optics course.
Hot damn, what a game changer.
Speed and accuracy were greatly improved using the dot.
25 yards is nothing now. Great class.

I have never been able to shoot with both eyes open. I have tried and tried but had zero luck.
Took quite a while to train my brain to do it. Especially through a magnified rifle scope.
Pistol irons is a lot easier & a RDS on an AR somewhere in between, closer to the pistol side of ease.

Glad you got to do that and that it helped. My experience was very similar.

pedropcolaI’m a purist. I prefer iron sights in nearly every way. Except for when I actually have to hit stuff fast and accurate. Then I prefer dots. G19 COA is nearly my favorite combo. I say nearly because I am currently and for awhile been a PDP guy. My PDP with a Holosun SCS on my SF compact is hard to beat.
When Aimpoint gets out of their year long deal with Glock the COA is going to be a huge seller on guns with the A Cut.
Like I’ve said many times, if you learn the mechanics and put in a bit of practice the dot will make you a believer.

Did they also teach shooting the dot, one-eyed and one-handed?

Yes, also shot with the front of the optic covered and the rear of the optic covered.
