what a letdown disappointment. First mag one instance of failure of slide to return to battery. A bump of the hand seated it but this went on and on. Every magazine had at least one instance until finally the slide stopped short about half an inch short. Cant pull back cant push it forward round in the chamber hammer pulled back. So I did what any technician would do. I went and got a mallet and smacked it. That did it and I finished the last of the mag.

All in all I shoot about 75 rounds of Fiocchi and American Eagle JHP and FMJ. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I'm pissed that this "precision" firearm couldn't finish one mag without a malfunction.

So an email to Sig to see what their opinion is.

Thanks for letting me rant a bitSmile

As an aside…when it was working it was great. Easy shooter and even I could hit what I was aiming at. I’m sure it something simple like the infamous return spring issue but still. Disappointed

Bummer! I’m sure Sig will take care of it. You might leave out the part about using a mallet on it, though. Wink

Well, that certainly blows Frown

My P210A Target was flawless right out of the box. I did change-out the recoil assembly for an enhanced, "low-recoil" assembly somebody somewhere around here recommended--just to prevent possible future problems. (Haven't had it to the range since I did that, though.)

Just to be sure, I have to ask: You did take it down and do a clean and lube before that range trip, right?

You sure the lube wasn't dried up? Sounds like the same failure my bud had the one time his gun was dry after shooting about 50 rounds. Slide seized up and after the range master diagnosed the issue and lubed it up a little for him it ran flawlessly.

Yeah....I took it apart and cleaned and oiled it last week. Today was the first time I've had a chance to shoot it.

Perusing the internet it seems that a 16lb CZ75 spring will work so I may try that depending on what Sig says. That reduced recoil thing sounds interesting.

In the meantime I think I'll give it a good cleaning and try it again tomorrow.

Do you have a link to the use of a CZ75 spring. Sounds interesting.
Thanks

Lube the heck out of it
Leave it locked open for a few days
Intermittently work the slide / dry fire.
Run a box or three of hotter and or heavier ammo through it 147 grain/+P/Defensive ammo etc.

My GUESS is these guns are built TIGHT and probably need an actual break in. Doing the above should go a long way toward achieving this.

I am not saying you shouldn’t contact SIG but the above MIGHT save you some time and annoyance.

Take care, shoot safe.
Chris

Try some Lucas marine grease on the rails. Mine has been flawless.

Sounds like some type of mechanical interference somewhere, not just lubrication.
Check the screw at the back of the grip that holds the Trigger Pack assembly in. If that’s loose it could give you a similar problem (it happened to me after a deep cleaning session and on reassembly I didn’t snug it down firmly).
If I remember it’s a T15 Torx.

OK I'm gonna come clean here. I was ranting and a bit pissed about my new high $$ precision top notch rave reviewed pistol not being able to run and good as the old beater CZ70 I picked up. BUT.....

It seems I may have erred in my clean/lube regimen. I used a slide grease normally used in my ARs and bolt action rifles. When I took it apart I noticed the slide was very sticky and not smooth as it should be. A few Q tips to removed the grease resulted in a much much smoother action. So...a few minutes later all grease removed and a light application of oil and all seems much better. I plan to go out tomorrow and give 'er another whirl. I'll let yall know how she does but I gotta feeling she'll do just fine.

Cool.

That sounds a lot better than having to send it off, etc...

So I finally got back out to try the Sig again today. And I'm happy to report that MY P210 is exactly as reported by everyone else. Smooth, accurate, excellent trigger, and very manageable recoil. 50 rounds without so much as a burp.

So let that be a lesson to me. Pay attention and don't grease the slide on a Sig P210.

Good to hear.

I put 50 thru one today at the local range and is ran perfect. Shot every bit as good as other P210's that I've shot over the years.

Maybe you have a tightly fitted example from the factory, congrats!

I will say that after handling some 5 or 6 American P210s at different local stores I have found that most of them have different slide tolerances in the lateral play, none up and down. My personal P210 standard is modestly tight, but not the tightest i've felt, I can "click" it side to side. I use the red Shooters Choice grease and this thing just glides and shoots beautifully...almost putting bullets into the same hole every time. Tis the era of CNC and tolerances guiding the way, and that's alright, it works.
