I field stripped a new Compact to lube and inspect. The take down lever was VERY tight (maybe/maybe not related to issue.) When I tried to reassemble the pistol the slide will not move backwards enough for the slide catch to lock the slide??

Suggestion/help is greatly appreciated.

I had what sounds like the same issue with mine (same gun) Make sure the recoil spring is lined up correctly. Then it still may take a few tries to get the slide to go on and the take down lever to rotate properly but it will all go back. Just takes a few times to get things set in and shoot it a good bit.

Does the X-Compact have that same recoil assembly as the 320SC? If so, it has to go in with the holes up and down.

Is the take down lever all the way flush with the frame? I know my SC is a pain to get back in. Sometimes it will look like it's in, but it is not 100% in. I have to rotate it up and down and push a little harder.

This worked on a friends 320. Of course magazine out. Hold slide fully to rear as far as it will go. While still applying pressure to slide rearward, rotate takedown lever in both directions until slide moves fully to rear. Engage slide stop. Rotatr takedown lever to normal position.
Hopefully this works. Some guns just need a little extra manipulation if new or tight.

Check the recoil spring like Nframe recommended. If it's not positioned properly and the straight parts aren't propel lined up, you will have an issue like you described.

I have 2 320C's. The barrel end of the recoil spring on the older one is a full circle. The newer one in 1/4 circle, 1/4 flat, circle, flat. When I tried to reassemble it made sense to put the flat part against the barrel. Not. The round part touches the barrel.

I third or fourth (Visco also) this; every time I have trouble putting my X Compact back, this is what bedevils me. Even if slightly askew, it will not go back to the slide stop.

I tried all the suggestions ... no go. For some reason, unknown to me, I pulled the trigger and it snapped/released ... then the slide mounted just fine. How in the world I cocked it while dissembled is beyond me? So once again, it was a self inflicted problem!

Just got a 320 SC, and also could not get the slide catch to catch on reassembly. Read the manual, it says to be sure the back end of the RSA
is flat sides vertical and the rounds ends need to be at 12 and 6 o'clock. Done.
