First up is a P225 that I traded a P365XL to forum member for locally. I had a P6 long ago that I had to sell and I always missed it so I was pretty happy to pick this up.





Then tonight I hit the LGS and saw this old Single Six in the case. I’m a sucker for old Ruger’s and always wanted a Single Six but new prices are insane. The finish is pretty worn but the lock work seems tight. The serial number dates it as a 1960 manufacture. I got it for $300 plus tax.

You are on a roll, might be a good week to buy a lottery ticket.

While I don’t necessarily worry about holster wear etc. I am however one of those people who strives to keep my guns in like new appearance etc.

All that said, I LOVE the wear on that Single Six. It’s sort of an honest patina of use and really fits that guns character. Enjoy it.

What are Single Sixes going for these days? I bought mine many moons ago and I don’t remember it being abnormally pricy. More expensive then the cheaper made alternatives of the time but not expensive per say. It’s a great gun I need to get out more. With the .22 mag cylinder she’s gotta lil’ bit of ass behind her.

I only ask about current prices because of what you said. Not looking to sell mine or price check to buy a new one. Just purely a curiosity based on your statement of high prices. Happy to delete if this crosses the price checking/soft offer for sale line or perception but like I said just a curiosity.

Yeah, the gun was clearly cared for. The wear on the finish is the only damage, there are no scratches from being abused or anything. The light is bouncing off the grips strange in the picture but they are in really good shape too. Somebody loved this gun.

Buying guns around here can be bittersweet because I know some of the owners are likely dead, or in declining health where they cannot use them any more. A few months ago I bought a SKS on consignment that belonged to a man who captured it in Vietnam. He had simply got to a point where he could no longer see to shoot anymore. We had a nice chat on the phone and I promised him that it was in a good home and we would take good care of it for him.

A couple months ago I was looking for a single six and only found one, it was used and marked at $650. It was stainless but that seemed excessive for a used one to me.

Wow 650!! Did Ruger stop making them in favor of the Wrangler?

I am a bit out of the Ruger loop.

I’m pretty sure they didn’t stop making them but I wonder if they are focused on producing more Wranglers and not as many Single Sixes. I’ve seen a lot of those for sale in pretty much every store I have been in. I saw a few Single Tens around too but not many.

Those are two great scores! Love both my P6 and my Single-Six. A three-screw to boot...has it been converted?

I have seen a ton of new Wranglers lately, not many single-sixes. And I agree...the prices on the ones I have seen are through the roof. We recently bought a Wrangler for my son. I would have preferred a used single-six, but there were none to be had for less than double the price of the wrangler.

I paid $550 for my 5.5" Stainless Single-Six about 10 years ago. It was expensive, but money well spent.

Great scores. I don't know if I would have given up a P365XL though, that's my favorite carry gun of all time......

I cannot blame you for picking up the 225. I've had five or six now. I jonesed for one for decades, bought it shot it and put it away.

I needed cash, and someone wanted it. So I sold it. Within a week I realized I was a dumb ass.

I have progressively bought one and traded up in quality since. I have a fantastic version now, and will not get rid of it.

I took it out the other week and tried it with its new threaded barrel and ghost m can. That was a delight. Small, compact, and quite a bit more manageable than my 365xl.

The 225 has been my EDC for over thirty years. Fits my hand just right and I shoot it dead on. Good luck with it. CCR du=id the refinishing.
Your Ruger is a Three Screw, very desirable. If. you have a four digit serial number it is from the 50's. Does it have the transfer bar?

Yeah it’s my first three screw. I know they are very desired by collectors. It has been upgraded so it’s got the transfer bar. I traced the serial number on Ruger’s website and it’s a 1960 build. For a 61 year old gun it’s in seemingly great mechanical condition. But these old Ruger’s tend to be solid guns.

Lol. Yeah but instead of costing an extra 60 bucks this one takes 60 years to get

Though that reminds me that I do have an Uberti Cattleman that has an old worn finish look on it. I bought it from my dad who loved that look. No doubt the honest wear on the Ruger looks 1000 times better than the fake stuff.

Yeah I like the P365XL, but between the Glock 19, Glock 48 and P365, along with various other options, I have a lot of good choices. 99% of the time I carry the Glock 19. And I actually prefer shooting the 365 to the XL. This was one of those guns that I’d likely never carry and would ever take out just for fun. I don’t carry the P225 either but I will occasionally shoot it just for kicks

Bummer. I lucked into a 3-screw Blackhawk in a Sheriff's sale last year, and while I'm not worried about the collector value, the 4 clicks sure is fun . Converted or unconverted, it's still a great gun and a good score for $300...I can easily see you getting another 60 years of reliable service out of that thing!
