Why did Hornady drop their 357 Mag 140 Gr XTP JHP loaded ammo ? Their 125 and 158 Gr lines are still going strong, but their 140 Gr option has disappeared without explanation that I can find.

I could imagine the Leverevolution has been filling that role? 140g expanding round meant for hunting.

Yea I thought that too, but I don't see a strong connection since the plastic pointed tip is for carbines, which I would guess use slower powders for 18 inch barrels, as opposed to the previous XTP JHP 140 grain pistol bullet. So the lever bullet is for rifles, and would probably suck wind in a magnum revolver with a 3 or 4 inch barrel. I guess sales weren't supporting that option when compared to the existing 125 and 158 grain XTP pistol bullets. Too bad, I think that bullet had good utility.

Can you ask Hornady on their website?

Good call. I'll call them and ask, or ask on their website if I don't get a straight answer. The AIs aren't much help, and are speculating without a solid answer one way or the other. Maybe their training data was not in the same time frame, or maybe the training data was filtered for anti-gun content, who knows. But apparently the bullet is still being sold as a loading component. Too bad Underwood ammunition isn't loading this specific bullet, it would be a real pounder with solid 2 legged penetration and serious energy transfer, without shedding any material.

Hornady's website says FTX 140gr does 1,440fps out of an 8" barrel. There are several videos of people using shorter barrels and chronographs.

The 140gr XTP seems to be 1,400fps out of an 8" barrel.
