pace40New (to me) carry gun…DWX
First off, I’m a revolver/1911 guy. I have been looking for a higher capacity carry gun I could live with for quite some time, because, well… crazy people. I really liked the Sig M11-A1 but my small hands, along with the TDA manual of arms, made it impossible to be consistent with it…so sold. Very simple requirements, higher capacity, hammer fired, single action, no rail, and something I could shoot acceptable (to me) times with (<1.95 1st shot; <0.20 splits). So, I went searching for a 1911/2011 in 9mm. Wilson EDC X9 fit the bill but… $$$$. Came upon a CZ75 compact at the local range, one day, and really liked grip feel and size but again, TDA.
Some weeks back, (I guess a few months at this point), LGS got in a used, as new, DWX Compact. CZ75 feel, 1911 manual of arms, great trigger, acceptable price, this could possibly be it, so home she came.
To the range for evaluation and practice. Simple drill, draw and fire 2 timed shots at a 3-inch circle @ 3 yds. I liked everything about the weapon, but was surprised by how snappy it was when first shooting it. It took me probably 20-25 targets before I could even get both rounds in the circle, but once I figured out grip pressure, I really liked this gun. No idea how many rounds were on the recoil spring in the pistol but I know I put through a bunch. Once I dropped a new spring in, the snappiness calmed right down. I did not, however, like the texture on the scales. Front and backstrap were fine but my girly palms found the scales very uncomfortable. A few minutes with some fine sandpaper to knock the edges off fixed that, and she is now my constant companion. I’ll probably replace them eventually, but for now, they’re fine. (suggestions welcome) Full range report coming soon but she is a keeper.
Oh, and thanks to Chowser in a thread a few years back for pointing me in the right direction, I have an IWB kydex rig coming from ANR.

DanHCongrats. The only downside I've read about them is that while it will take CZ75 Compact mags, not all of the baseplates will work in the DWX. Something to keep in mind if you ever shop magazines.

Thanks! Mags aren't really an issue. Got Mecgar CZ75C mags from gunmagwarehouse and baseplates from Henning. Work great. A few bucks more than just buying DW mags, but they are out of stock most times anyway.

pace40Well...1st shot times with the above leather rig were somewhat disappointing averaging about 2.1 sec. Hopefully, my new ANR rig (arrived yesterday) will speed that up a little. I did modify it by replacing the clip with straps. I just don't trust clips, any clips. I'll get out next week to try it out.

ruger357Nice looking gun. I’ve been looking at them. Need ambi safety.

Pistol is cut for ambi and they are available. Not a difficult trade out, but another 160 bucks on a $2K gun to get it where you want it might annoy some folks.

DanHI'm still trying to figure out if I want your gun's bigger brother or a Tanfoglio Limited Master.

ChowserTakes CZ75 Grips. But screws are weird.

DanHYeah, that's one of the quirky things. It takes CZ 75 Compact grips but uses 1911 grip screws.

Chowseryes, I forgot to say Compact. lol
My holster is by ANR

pace40Took some hours of dry fire and a few hundred rounds to get here but…
I use 9mm NATO for practice and either 124 +P HST’s or 124 +P Golden Sabers for carry. Zero malfunctions. About 2/100ths slower than my 1911’s on splits. A few hundred more rounds should fix that. Much better 1st shot out of kydex.
Sped it up a some towards the end of the session but, a little more dispersed. Probably could have gotten some better times but it started raining. I shoot enough; I don’t need to get wet doing it.
And…thought I would check accuracy while I was there. The below group seated and rested @ 25 yds. (Fed 124gr +P HST) Not too shabby. I’ll zero to center on the next trip. Didn’t have a pusher with me. Don’t much use sights on a carry gun anyway.
Oh, and love the new Henning grips. Checkering much better than the frag pattern on my delicate paws. (Just personal preference, of course)

Oscar ZuluI picked one up awhile back. I swapped out the red trigger for a black one, and put some wood grips on it. (I'm a creature of the past). Fantastic gun! Think of it as a Hi-Power with a 1911 trigger.
That being said, is it really better than a lightly worked over Hi-Power? Certainly more accurate, but enough to matter? Either way, no regrets.
Nice gun,
