You are correct Sir.

The Glock 49 looks weird/unwieldy to my eye but in hand it handles quite well.

It seems like what I'd been intending to try with my P320, and put a FS slide on a C lower.

Will have to see if anyone local has one to check out & compare to a 19

My crystal ball says there will be a run on 19x's in the near future.

Pass, I'd have a regular 19 or the 49 over the 19X.

The FS grip, compact slide does nothing for me, personally.

If you haven’t try shooting a 45/19x. They really shoot well. Something about that full size grip combined with the speed of return of the smaller slide really makes them one of the better shooting Glocks IMO.

Yeah, I thought it was stupid until I handled and shot one. I really, really like the G45.

I posted this in the “Go shoot a match!” thread, but hey, may as well share my cancer Glocks in this thread as well. Razz

To my utter surprise, I was shooting better groups both from a rest to zero the optic and offhand with the G45 yesterday. Same GPT trigger in both guns. I cannot explain it.

I felt the same way about the long grip/short slide combo of the G19X/G45, until I shot one.

For duty, open carry, wintertime carry, or home defense purposes, I think they're ideal. Better than the G17 and the G19.

The G19 just wins by a nose (or a butt) for concealability purposes specifically.

99% for me is IWB CC.
So the extra length of the 17 grip I think would potentially print a lot worse.

^^ This
Yea, I sold the 19 it was superfluous and not as good as the G45. If I need a summer carry, the G48/43x is it over the 19.
My comment about a bunch of 19x's in the crystal ball, was in reference to a .mil transition.

I ordered (preordered I should say), a 26X frame from the Glockstore this morning.

I’ve got a 27 top end and plenty of frame parts in my shop to put it together.

Looks like the frame has some nice stippling and undercuts in the design, with a front accessory rail that is based off the 43X pattern.

It’s a serialized part obviously, and ships to an FFL. For $149.00 it should make for another interesting project.

I sold my 19X shortly after purchasing my G45..
I didn't care for the color.

I don't get the infatuation with short slide/barrels. That parallels my body. As long as it doesn't interfere with knee movement it can be almost any length. It's grip length that's perpendicular to me and pushes out cover clothing risking exposing carrying. If anything, a 17 slide/barrel on a 26 grip is the more concealable permutation. Ugly as can be I'd imagine, but concealable.

LDB, it’s mostly the recoil impulse combined with a bigger grip to hang onto. It cycles noticeably faster than a G17 for the same amount of real estate on the gun that you actually handle and manipulate. The G47 has the same slide mass as the G45 (IIRC) and the same recoil spring assembly with the G17 barrel length and slide, so it cycles faster than a 17 as well, but a little smoother feeling than the G45. Both of these are seen as improvements over the G17 and G19 by many.

For whatever reason, I shoot my G45 better than my G17. These days, I honestly don’t care about printing because after years of carrying, I’ve determined that nobody is looking and nobody cares anyway, so I may as well carry as much gun as I can hang onto.

The long slide on a short grip may conceal better, but there’s less of the gun to use to physically control it. I also don’t get the appeal of making for a longer, slower cycle time on a carry gun, but hey, there’s an ass for every seat and that’s why they’re finally making all these options for us now. Smile

I agree. I'm not a short grip fan. I want at least a sliver of grip below the area covered by my hand. Not counting the magazine floor. I guess I'd have to shoot the models side by side and see if it made any difference to my shooting. Not sure I'm that talented a shooter for it to do so. It's great for those who want it and maybe can gain advantage from it. And in that case I see it. But I see/hear those who want the shorter slide for concealability and that I just can't see.

I wonder how many Glock pistols have been sold as a direct result of this thread? The world may never know.

I recently bought 2 Glocks: a G49 (recently discontinued) and a G45. With those two guns I have 4 combinations: a G49, a G45, a G17 and a G19. All of which fit the same holster.

IMHO the Glock 49 was the best Glock ever made. For the life of me I cant understand why it was discontinued.

Optics. 15 years ago it would have been loved. These days optics negate a “need” for a longer sight radius and you are t giving up much velocity from 17-19 length.

I've never really been a fan of my Gen 2 G19 for a carry pistol.
I shoot the full-sized frames and even my G26 better.
I shot my G43X better, and the grip length is similar, yet thinner than the G19.

Looking forward to giving my daughter the G19.
It should fit her grip perfectly.
The P228 I gave her did .. Big Grin
