Ignored facts still exist |
I'm no expert in 1911's but I wanted to add that you can buy 9mm all day long here, but .45 ACP is tougher to find and twice the price when you do. Not sure if this is a factor for you. .

.45ACP, like Jesus, John Wayne and John Moses Browning would have wanted. 1911’s in other calibers are fine, as long as you already own a few in .45 _____________________________________________________ Sliced bread, the greatest thing since the 1911.

When People move to Texas, it is the expectation of Texans that you modify your behaviors in certain ways that are appropriate to Texas. Here, when one refers to "a BBQ Sandwich", it is Beef. When one refers to "Boots", they have no laces. When one refers to his "hat" it has a brim, a crown and is not adjustable in size. When one refers to a "1911" it is a 45. At any rate, once you buy it, go to Bastrop and buy some magazines from Tripp Research. (not online, in person, Virgil will answer the door and he's a great guy). It will increase the reliability of the weapon considerably. (even if you do get the 9mm, get the mags from him too) I'm glad I could be of help. ***************************** "I don't own the night, I only operate a small franchise" - Author unknown

Should you want a 1911 that shoots like a 22, make it 9mm.

I’m gonna go for the 45. I already reload for it & have a steel framed commander sized 1911. Just waiting for the Chief Financial Officer to realize we could pay off the house today. (She wants to have something like a $30k buffer in the bank “just in case”) I realized since I started this thread…if I wanted a 9mm…I already have one (G43x) and I’d have have no need for a 1911 9mm. But I need a new 1911. "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. Next question is what are you guys carrying extra mags in? Already have an IWB kydex for the 1911 "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. I’ll throw in something different if you don;t mind that finding ammo is a little more difficult. I have 1911’s in all flavors and calibers, but I really like my Dan Wesson Guardian in 38 Super.

Our Family CFO is the same way.
Careful! They're kind of like Pringles I've four 1911's and a 2011, and I'm feeling the need for another 1911 already. I'm thinking something in a .45 ACP Commander. Maybe a Dan Wesson Specialist?
I've a vertical leather single mag carrier for my .45 ACP and 10mm mags, and a Magholder horizontal mag carrier for my Springfield EMP 3 9mm. I think the Magholder would be good for standard-size 1911 mags. It's not sized correctly for an EMP 3's mags, though. It works, but it's not optimal. "America is at that awkward stage. Congrats on the upcoming .45! As for magazine-carrying, my first preference is for leather. I most often use a Milt Sparks S4C, their single-magazine OWB pouch. They also make a double, the D4C, but for two OWB magazines I will just put on a second S4C. I also like their IPD, an IWB double-pouch. Also shown is an aforementioned Magholder - they do indeed work well with full-size 1911 magazines. I already have a 2011 Edge in 40S&W…no way I’d EDC it though. "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. MikeinNC- Good choice. I followed your path for a long time. In terms of the caliber the gun was chambered in when I bought it- I have 4 1911s in .45 [and a Ballester Molina], and one in .38Super. My 'old school' 9mm bug is satisfied with the BHP, a '44 P38 [horrible DA trigger, but not as bad as a Makarov], or a '45 Star Model B. But, it is possible to convert some 1911s to run both .45acp AND 9mm. It is just NOT cost effective. It is cheaper and easier to just buy a 9mm RIA 1911 as a second gun that do the work to buy and fit all the swapping parts for a .45acp/9mm 1911. IF you are interested in 9mm 1911 as another 1911- I'd recommend a .38Super version, and then fit a 9mm barrel to the slide/frame. You get two calibers to play with, and this change is a lot easier to make work than the .45 to 9mm conversion. Sigs and Non-Sigs: I enjoy having options!

From my previous post: Top one is from Big Jim Clay C5 Leather (sadly no longer making holsters) Montana XL (Commander size) IWB holster (Versa-Max II clone) with a twin mag IWB pouch. The other is Rob Leahy’s SimplyRugged 'Cuda Roy Baker style pancake holster and single mag pouch. I also have an Andrews McDaniel II holster with body guard that sees a lot of use, as well as another Big Jim Clay Montana but in two tone finish and XLT (Government) size.
