Anyone use the Glock factory mag well yet?
I just saw this in my email, wanted to know if it works well or just too flimsy. Only fits the G17 gen5 frames but for $19.99 I am tempted to try it.

I tried going to the glock Online store but the link provided was broken. Looks ok wish they made them for other generations.

Interesting that it fits only the gen 5, which already has a pretty generous flared magazine well built in.

I don't know why it took them this long to make one. They have been missing out on a large market share.

The front end looks good, but they lost me on the back end.

Gotta pay to play, but this is how you do it...

I wonder if it will still work if there are backstraps installed...

It appears to extend below the grip area, lengthening the grip considerably. Perhaps useful for competition, but less so for carry. It looks like it wouldn't work with the Vickers baseplates that are on most of my Glock mags.

I use Agency Arms minimalist mag wells on my compact and full size 9mm, .40, and .357 Glocks (don't have anything on the .45's and 10mm's). They work with all the baseplates, provide a small amount of flare, don't print or lengthen the grip for concealment, and mostly just make an enhancement to the grip shape.

Magpul version is cheap, minimal, effective. Never understood paying more for a magwell.

I never needed a mag well on my double stack competition pistols in IDPA or USPSA. The hole was big enough in conjunction with the tapered magazine to make a funnel unneeded.

But it probably can't hurt, unless it makes the gun too big for you.

I wonder if it will allow guns equipped with one to fit in the IDPA box? (Which is how they regulate overall size.)

I tried the magpull magwell when it came out. I threw it in the trash. It fit badly and it was useless.

A mag well isn't there to fix bad practices; one shouldn't put a magazine well on a pistol because one can't stick the magazine every time. A large mag well can help, but should never be used as a crutch. In some cases, they're useful for weight. An example is the steel mag well that Sig sells for som of the full size P320 (x-frames, Legion).

For concealed pistols, a small mag well does expand the mag channel, but it offers a sort of wedge at the base of the grip which can also be useful for indexing. It can have the effect, whether actual or perceived, or driving the hand higher onto the grip (or serves as a reminder to do so). Many put a mag well on their carry pistol for that reason.

Pro Tip :

Your pistol came with a magwell.
That's what inside the grip area.

This is a "Magwell Funnel"
Thank you SIG for clarifying that !

I don't need the funnel, but I like how they nest your hand into the grip.
I wouldn't buy the Glock offering.
It is low cost, there's that.

All make well designed magwell funnels.
Not cheap, though.

And there's the Dawson Ice which is a big ol' cow catcher and polymer lined too.
I have one on a 2011.
