There's obviously no substitute for firing your actual carry gun with live ammo, but opportunities to do so are not always available.

I know there are some wickedly accurate pellet pistols out there, but they bear little similarity to real firearms. I tried a Glock branded (Umarex) CO2 BB pistol, but was fairly disappointed.

Is CO2 Airsoft a viable alternative for indoor training? Do the Airsoft Glocks perform adequately for 5-10 yard practice? Standard paper targets?

Lots of questions, but I'm totally new to the AS game. Never even fired one.

Thanks

Airsoft is awesome. 5-10 yards you better wear padding and eye pro. Very realistic and fun. Nothing like a full auto MP5 that costs almost nothing to mag dump. Jump in. With both feet.

Well, start by looking on Ebay for gun stuff like optics - there's a ton of crap they want to pass off as good for a real firearm and the fine print will say airsoft ... Big Grin Razz

Green gas powered pistols are purportedly more reliable.

My buddy doesn't know it yet but he's getting a Green Gas G19 for Christmas. I test fired it and damn near ordered one for myself.

Just don't expect real gun reliability. My SIG Proforma is going back to the factory after the holiday.

^^^^^

I've heard that about GG, but don't think filling my basement with propane is a good idea.

I think you would literally have to have a squad of guys fighting an airsoft war in your basement go even notice the propane. When you fill it it is literally a whoosh of gas and then you shoot for a decent while.

I got my son a Glock 17 CO2 powered airsoft. The slide moves when firing.
It fits my Glock holsters and WMLs.

Not minority enough!

That's actually the one I'm looking at. Out of stock, of course.

What kind of accuracy should I expect at 7yds?

I've messed with green gas pistols. Reliable and clean. No odor at least with the airsoft intended gas. Gas goes a long way, too. The biggest downside i found was that magazines were expensive and not fond of being dropped

I will first post a disclaimer that I don't know if the video is actual, or if it is internet fluff content. Recently, this bunch have posted some stuff that cause me to question their motives. However......

Dry fire is where the heavy lifting is done in actually training. It's not sexy. But, the REAL gains are made in dry fire. A talented shooter will use live fire to check what they are doing in dry fire.

If what they claim is true in this video, it's pretty amazing. And it is telling to your questions. This kid, according to the video, was largely self taught using nothing but airsoft. And it did transfer to skill using CO2 airsoft.

There's a lot of static around Lucas Botkin. I can't personally vet any of it and there's no doubt he's built a successful company and has some standing in the industry. I take a lot of his stuff with a grain of salt, but I've seen the airsoft video and I think he makes valid points. I can't remember right now if it's that video or another one where they have a guy that's hugely into airsoft in Japan come to America and visit them. He's never fired a real gun but his skills translate extremely well.

Is it fair to say that dry fire with a RDS can provide ample feedback? It certainly seems so to me, especially in comparison to dry fire with irons.

I think it is one of the best tools out there to improve your dry fire. And it’s not snake oil like the electronic whiz bang “programs” with horrible “coaching”

Steel Challenge was won, one year, by a Japanese shooter, who trained with air soft, until a few weeks before the match.

I know a SIRT pistol can really accelerate someone, provided it’s paired with regular practice.

I have never used airsoft but I like my Laserlyte system. Great for dryfire training. I have a compact, full size and j-frme . I like the choice of reactive targets, one actually sounds like ringing steel. Train anywhere and no pellets to pick up. One setback is no felt recoil. Hope this gives you another option in these zero ammo times.
