BEAUTIFUL Pistols - There is something about an all stainless, railless, tailless SIG P226 pistol. Clean natural lines.

Very nice! A Sport Stock is on my list of wants and have been casually searching for a long time.

Congratulations.
That is a GREAT looking P226
I have both a P220 Sport Stock and a P229 Sport Stock, however before I could find a nice P226 Sport Stock I came upon a great deal on a X-5 Allround
That satisfied my itch for an all stainless P226. I happen to like the feel of the beavertail and dislike rails, The 5" barrel of the X-5 is a bonus for me.
Great looking guns. Outside of the sights, what is the difference between a Sport Stock and a Stainless Steel Elite (SSE)?

I don't know about the SSE, but one thing which differentiates a Sport Stock from a standard P226 is that the Sport Stock has a 15mm diameter barrel, as opposed to the standard P226 barrel diameter of 13.5mm.
Here's something you won't see every day- a 15mm diameter P226 barrel, extended and threaded:
Shortened, actually, from an X-Five threaded barrel.

Congrats on a fine purchase. She is a real beauty.
I bought this back in the early 2000s. I'm not sure if it is considered a Sport Stock but it is pretty close. The box is labeled "226-9-S 9mm ALL STEEL" I called Sig customer service at the time and they said only around 50 were imported. I'm sure one of our Sig experts know more about this variant than I do.

^^^^ Thanks Para. I'll have to check the barrel on my SSE tonight to see if it has a 15mm barrel.

BB61 - I think there are two (or maybe three) primary differences between the SSE and the Sport Stock(could be more).
1 - The SSE has a “beaver tail” (under the hammer).. 2 - The SSE has a long extractor where the Sport Stock has either a short or internal extractor.
3 - I “think” (someone step in here and help me please) that some SSE lower frames were not made of stainless steel, but rather aluminum or alloy?
I stand to be corrected on both of these differences as I am not an expert on these pistols by any means.

So my P229 does have the beaver tail and a SS frame. Adjusting for P229 vs P226 it looks like the differences are as follows:
1. sights (adjustable for the Sport and standard night sights SSE), 2. beaver tail (SSE) 3. bull barrel (Sport TBD SSE) 4. grips (rosewood SSE)
Interesting discussion.

The Sport and Sport Stock pistols, just like the X-5 and X-6 pistols are all products of the SIG Master Shop in Germany
The Pistols are hand fitted and the actions have their SA trigger break tuned to a very fine standard. The Master Shop does not tune the DA trigger pull because those are not commonly needed for the shooting games over in Germany. At least that's the way it was explained to me by the good old folks at SIG
Additionally the slide stop and de-cooking levers are both produced at a different angle that sticks out from the firearm unlike the Company's carry guns
Here are my P229 Sport and P 229 Sport Stock pistols

Yours would not be considered a Sport Stock (which specifically refers to the bull barrel and LPA sights), but it does have the same frame as the Sport Stock. Unlike the Sport Stock, yours was assembled here in the U.S. and its upper is standard P226 (no bull barrel and no LPA sights). I don't know how many Sport Stocks came into the U.S. but I think the model you have is actually rarer believe it or not.
The last P226 in the U.S. to use the Sport Stock frame was the P226 SL sold by Afton Arms in the early 2010s. It was the exact same configuration as your model but its slide was German too and it was assembled in Germany.
The P226 Sport also used this frame, but it had that old proprietary rail cut into it to accept the match weight.

Congrats! The P226 Sport Stock is one of my grail SIGs. Haven't hunted one down as of yet. Let us know how it shoots for you!

Very nice indeed. It's been a minute since I last came across a Sport Stock, a P229 version. Regretted passing on it but I thought the asking price was a tad steep at the time. In hindsight maybe it wasn't but that's how it sometimes goes. Enjoy your splendid find.

Some additional difference I noticed are the "Sigarms" Hogue rubber grips and the slide lock/release and decocker levers are flared out for better manipulation. You can somewhat see it in the photo. It also came with 10 round magazines.
One thing I wonder is why there is a dimple in the frame between the decocker and takedown levers.
Haven't decided if I'm going to fire this or not. I'm torn at the moment.
