A large gun shop local to me was running 20% off used guns. Well I'm a VIP range member so I get an extra 15% off so I basically get 35% off used guns this weekend.

Stopped today to look at a S&W 4506 they had on their website and I found this too:

S&W Model 10 (no dash), 6" barrel in VG condition with a cylinder line and a little muzzle finish wear. Serial is "C 4414**) and its a 4 screw which should put production between 1955-1961. I did pull the grips and they are original as the serial (minus the C) is stamped in ink.

Anyone a S&W guru that can nail down the mfg date a little more?

Oh I forgot to mention the best part. Price, roughly $325 after the discounts.

I did grab the 4506 too, with the discounts it was $455. No boxes or extras for either gun but at those prices, no compliant from me.

According to the Standard Catalog of S&W, your Model 10 shipped sometime in 1960

Just an update the Model 10 is a good shooter!

10yds, offhand, single action. Ammo was Winchester Ranger 110gr +P Hollowpoints. This was 6rds fired.

One of my Dad's buddies had a 4" model 10 that he carried on the job as an officer in Chicago, I think. I got to shoot it, and it is a really soft shooter.

His department got P220s in .45 at one point and he and the other officers hated them, which I find amusing.

Phone's ringing, Dude.

I realize the Model 10 is a K-frame, but I'd suggest avoiding the +P loads anyway. No need to stress the old frame, especially with the 110 grain bullets which were problematic in the .357Mag load.

It's not like you're likely to use it for defensive purposes, go with standard .38Spl if you don't reload.

JMHO, YMMV, etc. Wink

If you shoot those 110 gr that well, give some 148 gr wadcutters a try. That will really make you proud of yourself. JMHO and YMMV too.

It looks like you got a good deal. The folk over at the S&W Forumn cold probably tell you more about both of those fine handguns they you would ever think to ask.

No plans to regularly shoot +Ps. I only ran those because of how well they've grouped for me with my other K-Frames.
