I just won this on GunBroker for a great price from a dealer in Iowa that I have bought from before. I had a P224 when they first came out and really liked it. This one caught my eye and I grabbed it immediately. It is in .40 cal and only has one 10 round mag. I am working on getting some OEM 9mm magazines since I can borrow the 9mm barrel from my P229c 9mm. I did find some new MecGar P224, 9mm, 13 round magazines with sleeves. I ordered two of them and will be anxious to try them out. I do have a good supply of 15 round P229-1, 9mm magazines which should also work. Of course I will have to “jury rig” some type of sleeve or spacer for these magazines. I remember when I owned my first P224, .40 cal, the extended magazines without the sleeve did not seem to work very well (I guess the sleeve sort of kept the magazine in the correct position). If anyone has some updated information on the P224’s, please let me know. (I borrowed these photo’s from the dealer’s ad.) Thanks gang, TJ

That’s a real gem Joe, I had the exact same and foolishly let it go 4 or 5 yrs ago when i dabbled in the 365 world. I wish I would have kept it in retrospect as it was a solid CCW choice. Congrats on your new addition.

Nice pickup! Hope you like it. My P224 SAS DAK in .357 Sig is one of my CCW pistols. I never understood why Sig folks did not warm up to the P224. To each their own. I certainly like mine, and am very glad I own one !

Very nice find! They are an interesting gun for sure. Definitely it's own animal and you don't see many in the wild anymore.

Well I picked up my P224 yesterday and, wow, it is even nicer than the vendor’s photo’s. It feeds a snap-cap perfectly and appears to have the latest extractor installed. After I get to the range, I will contact Sig Sauer and try to find out more information on it. At this time I am changing my plans on using it as a 9mm since I just picked up a pristine P229c, 9mm. I will use this P224 as a .40 cal and focus on obtaining magazines. TJ

That really looks super clean! Even the grip screws look just like new. That is also reassuring on the snap cap too.

Building an extended magazine for my P224. I wanted to use my P229, .40 cal, 12 round magazines in my P224. However, the stock sleeve spacers for the 12 round mags are impossible to find or are available at a ridiculous price. I read that some owners have used the spacer from the extended .40 cal mag from ProMag with good results after a little fitting. Here is a photo of my P224 with three magazines. The stock 10 rounder on the left, the stock 12 rounder in the middle, and a ProMag 15 round.40 cal mag for a P229 on the right (with their spacer). This is the dooner ProMag spacer sleeve I used. I just had to sand a little off the bottom of the spacer to make it work. The finished product looked and felt great on the gun. I actually like this space better than the stock Sig spacer I had with my first P224. It feels better and fits better. If I remember correctly the stock Sig spacer I had on my first 224 was a rather sloppy fit. This one fits snuggly on the magazine and (if you are careful with the sanding procedure) allows the magazine to click into place with authority. It should be noted that I ordered two of these magazines just to get the spacers. The first spacer I sanded from the top side and I had a little trouble fitting it that way. It works but does not look as nice as the second one I tried today. Now I just have to get to the range and try this mag out with live fire. I remember with my first 224, when I shot the gun with the 12 round magazine and no spacer, it did not want to feed correctly all the time. I attributed this to the fact that the mag was not held in the correct position all the time. Hopefully, this spacer will help present the mag in the correct position for proper feeding. Just a word about the ProMag products. The only experience I have had with their magazines was with my P6, 9mm, when I first got it. They worked perfectly and almost seemed smoother. These mags I got for this project seemed really nice and I will use them at the range also. I have a message into ProMag to see if I can purchase some of these sleeves separately for spares. Just wanted to share this with you gang. Have a great day. TJ

Here is a photo of a stock spacer (on the top) compared to mine that I made from a ProMag spacer (on the bottom). I like mine better. It looks like the stock OEM spacer is designed to go over the base plate potentially making it too wide. Mine is narrower and sits on top of the base plate. TJThis message has been edited. I've got two 224's, one a 9mm DAK and the other a 9mm DA/SA SAS. I really wanted to love them (basically a hammer fired Glock 26) but just never warmed up to them. They are AIWB carry for me but I still seem to end up carrying my P2000sk in that role. The one you picked up is a great looking example though, great shape.

Trooper Joe, you have a very nice pistol. I had completely forgotten about them; now I want one! The Equinox version looks great. Additionally, I like both the .40 S&W and .357 Sig cartridges. Thank you for posting about your P224. Roger
