Micro Dagger mags. (Glock 48)
Ok. Bought the G48. New sights are in my mailbox. Read all your posts about Shield mags and Micro Dagger mags. Heard about ETS mags but did not research because I feel like they are crap although I have zero empirical data on that. I know there have been complaints about the quality and excess flashing on the Micro Dagger mags but I bought 5 mags and 4 (they came in 2 packs) of the Excess Arms aluminum baseplates because whether they work or not the pictures of the bowed plastic baseplate seemed like a weak spot in the design.

Got them yesterday. Put them all together all did a general look over. Say what you will about PSA but they clearly have been listening to your feedback. Everything looked good on the outside and when I inspected the inside of the tube there was zero excess flashing of plastic material. It was smooth everywhere and I have no intention of dremeling anything like I have read had been needed. There was a tiny bit of plastic on the front bottom lip of the baseplate area but the baseplates slid over it without issue. I might have pinched some hairlike filament off but the quality was about perfect.

These insert smoother than some of my OEM mags which can bind if you apply lateral pressure during insertion. I tried applying pressure off axis with these and in no direction could I get any binding.

I bought the silver “slick” ones. I think the black would be better aesthetically since you see a tiny bit of the tube but that is a fairly meaningless gripe.

Haven’t shot them yet and obviously that is the important part but they appear to be well made, sharp design, and without issue.

I went this direction because I think installing a metal mag release and being (somewhat obviously) limited in your ability to use OEM mags without causing damage is retarded. My opinion. If these work 100% I think this hybrid design is the almost perfect solution.

Now we just need Mecgar to make their Glock mags for the slim lines. Using the dimpled catch instead of a cut solves everything. Come on MecGar I know you are looking at this so just do it already.

I've been running these in my 48 for a bit and have not had any issues. I have three of the shield mags but I didnt love replacing the catch and these run just as well.

There is nothing so fantastic about the Mecgar G19/G17 magazines that would make me buy one over the factory Glock magazines. It's not like factory Glock magazines are expensive either. Having a reliable higher capacity Mecgar 43x/48 magazine is a different story. The fact that Mecgar hasn't released a 43x/48 magazine makes me believe they might be having issues getting them to work correctly or at least up to Mecgar standards.

Congrats on the G48 by the way.

Load them to capacity and leave them for a few days before running.

I am running actual Glock followers in mine because they appear to have more of an anti tilt to them.

So far I’ve had good luck with these mags. I had 1 FTF with one mag in the first 15 but it was likely due to the springs not being worked in, also original follower (that probably doesn’t matter).

I’ve run a couple hundred rounds through two of them without issue.

I just bought some mecgar g19 mags in the same order. Thanks Greg Cote. I have NEVER had mecgar mags underperform so I will be surprised if these are anything less than 100%. In static handling I already prefer them to OEM. Of course I will test them for a couple hundred to a case just to be sure but I trust all things mecgar.

I’ve always had great luck with MecGar almost universally. The only reason I haven’t tried the Glock mags is the normal value proposition isn’t there.
They are not significantly cheaper
Glock mags are already insanely reliable and durable
They only offer one more round and frankly if I am in need of one more after expending 17+1 I doubt that extra magic bean is gonna help and besides with my skill level I’ll probably be dead after 8. Razz

Not saying the MecGar’s are bad just saying that for me personally they don’t bring anything to the table for me vs. stock Glock double stack mags. (Beretta, CZ etc. hell yeah I prefer them.)

Now a 43x/48 mag with say 12-13 or more rounds from them…….sign me up.

Here’s my take. I own a bunch of pistols. Not only has mecgar performed equally to every single OEM magazine across multiple platforms in many cases mecgar is in fact the OEM manufacturer. I paid 18.95 apiece for these mags. From the same guy Glock mags cost $4 more apiece. That’s cheaper and if they are 100% reliable then I’m using them. Personally I have always disliked cleaning Glock mags because the baseplate is a pain in the ass. If, and this is a massive if at this point, they are reliable equal to factory I have no issues using them.

In the past I have used KCI (Korean) Glock mags and magpul versions. I have noted neither were equivalent to factory. They didn’t suck but not great. Weak springs in kci and magpul balked with steel case ammo.

I trust mecgar for literally almost every gun I own so I just don’t see why I wouldn’t trust them with Glock mags after some testing.

We shall see. It’s not like I don’t have a lifetime supply of factory Glock mags lying around the house so I’m covered even if these suck. lol

Glock mags are so ubiquitous we all have a lifetime supply of them. Smile. Hell I could probably go into a random grandma’s house and find a couple or three. Big Grin

PSA has great customer service! I have a dozen of the 1st generation micro dagger magazines purchased 2 years ago and have a few thousand rounds through the bunch. One of the magazines had a few failures to lock the slide back on an empty mag, so PSA sent out a dozen upgrade kits which included the current generation followers, springs, and baseplates. I just added a SLR Rifleworks low-profile magazine well to my g43x which accommodates both OEM and PSA magazines. It's just enough to cover the protruding magazine body, providing some much need real estate.

Went to the range yesterday with the updated followers, springs, and floor plates for the PSA micro dagger 15 round magazines and had one magazine fail. The newly designed red follower tilted and stuck 3/4 up the magazine body. I switched all my mags back to the 1st generation black followers which have the same anti-tilt design that the OEM Glock mags employ. The new followers seem to be a downgrade, and a few members of 'Glock Talk' are also using OEM G19 followers in their micro dagger magazines with success.

I am running G19 followers in mine and they seem to work great.

Hopefully the PSA mags will work out for you. My Gen 3 Shield mags have run out 100% in my G48, just fyi.
