Help. Mounting screw sheared off in slide… Login/Join

So purchased a holosun scs-320 and mounted to my p226 legion slide (dpp cut). Tightened mounting screws to suggested torque per manual. Go to sight it in today and after about 2 mags, its starts throwing shots 5in right, 5in left. I check the optic and it is wobbling around. I notice a screw is missing. Found the screw on the ground but noticed it was shorter than i remembered. Basically it sheared off and now i have the bottom threads of the screw stuck in my slide…looking for any help or suggestions on how to get it out of there. Thanks in advance.

Drill it and use an easyout.

That’s an awfully small screw. Unless you have a mill, I’d take it to a machine shop.

A small easy out will work on optics screws. I had similar happen last month (mine was a stripped screw head).
A couple minutes carefully drilling and an easy out later … and all was right with the world.

Give this a try before drilling. Do you have a sharp pointed tool like a leather awl or dental pick? With light, locate a high spot on the broken screw. See if it can be turned with a sharp pointed steel pick.

Happened twice on my daughters M18. Went back to Sig both times on their dime. It happens more often to the 320's than you'd think. I consider it a major design flaw.

Im going with this as a viable option. Especially if you used loctite or any other type of thread lock.

A neighboring agency had a screw from a Holosun shear off in a Glock 47 slide. Rather than risking any further damage locally, they sent the slide to Glock and had it back in a week. Through a bit of reading we learned that the Holosun screws are probably too soft. All Holosun screws for that department, and shortly thereafter my department, were replaced with Battleworx screws for less than $2 per pistol. No issues since.

Thanks. Ill order some of them. I ordered an easy out kit as well. With a vice it seems like it should be pretty easy…

Interesting, is there an outfit that does the same thing with stainless screws?

Weird I wonder if the screw was defective?? I’ve got a SCS-320 on my 320 but only maybe 400rds through it. Guess I’ll keep an eye on it. First mounted it and noticed something slightly similar but I didn’t Loctite and after 100rds the screws came loose. Threw on some blue Loctite and it’s been good since. Maybe the screw came loose and sheered because of it?
