Poll: Which SIG P226 would you sell if you HAD to?
Hello Everyone,

I know this is a tough subject for most of us, but please vote and share your thoughts.Which SIG P226 would you sell if you absolutely HAD to?W. German (KE date code) in about 98% conditionTwo tone (non-rail/9mm) in about 90% condition

I would keep the KE 226. There is just something special about the folded steel slide guns. Being WG, it’s a piece of history and I like the old style grips. Also, you say it’s in better shape. It might just be me, but I’ve never cared for 2 tone Sigs.

On another note, I hope whatever you are going through that’s making you consider selling one isn’t too bad.

I sought out a West German folded slide P226 and came up with a KB in probably 90% condition. It has some choice ugly marks on the slide that have me considering a CPII job, but whether I do or don't, this one is part of the permanent collection. I let my KD P220 walk and that was probably a mistake. I won't be repeating it.

I'm sorry you're in a position where you feel you have to sell a gun.

I am right in line. I would keep the West German KE.

The all black one is to keep, if you must sell one.

They’re not making West German ones anymore.

This one only took me as long as it did to cast my vote 'cuz the answer seemed so obvious I was double-checking to make sure it wasn't a trick question - lol

Unless the two tone Sig had any sentimental value or special meaning...

The configuration of the guns wasn't mentioned, as in which one might be better suited for a specific role (ie whether one or both have functioning night sights, action jobs, extended controls, aftermarket grips, original test targets + original boxes + manuals etc..)...

...but yeah, given the current descriptions listed, I'm with the pack on this one and would keep the KE because not only is it a West German gun, but this vintage is waaay early in the model line-up and there are some interesting design nuances to this era.

The two caveats to this being that I'm assuming your KE is pre-mudrail (mine is) and also that it has the Chicago mod.

elberettas, I know that you are a die hard P226 enthusiast, as am I, and that this is a difficult decision for you. Just wanted to say how sorry I am that you are in this position and that I hope it works out the best way possible for you.

Wow! What a great group. Thankfully, I don't have to sell anything. This discussion came up between my wife and I while doing our taxes yesterday. She actually bought me the two tone when we got engaged. It was really just a "what if" question. Luckily, I have a wonderful wife who will not let me sell anything.

The two tone is from about 2000 and has a milled slide. I got it to be more of a shooter to keep my KE as pristine as possible. The KE has original (dim) night sights. The two tone has original bar/dot sights, but I will be sending it in for the SSP after a couple thousand more rounds.

Sorry for scaring everyone! Eek

Well that changes the equation significantly. Wink

I'd fight like hell to keep both... but if there was no way around selling one or the other, I'd be keeping whichever gun my wife had given me as an engagement gift.

Really glad to read that you aren't jammed up on this! Smile

Can I change my vote? Big Grin

I'm not a fan of two-tone in general, so I chose it to go, but I'd start an Only Fans page before I sold one my wife gave me.

Ha! Ha! I was asking her that if it ever came down to it, would she rather me sell the two tone and just consider the KE as my gift from her? She said I am never selling either one. They are all keepers.... Wife and pistols! Wink

MDS,

Thanks a bunch! Your knowledge of the P226 is impressive. My KE does not have mud rails, but I'm not familiar with the Chicago mod.

Oh. You should've said. That changes everything.

My wife bought me a P239 SAS one Christmas. While I like it a lot, it isn't my favorite pistol, nor is it the one I shoot best. Nonetheless: It would be the last to go.

Assuming the two tone is NOT a West German model, I'd jump on the bandwagon of selling that one.

If it were, and you had the original box showing that, I'd sell the other one.

I see WG P226's in VG+ condition with box, etc. in my area every couple months for like $700-$800. WG two tones are always at least $1k, and much less common.

No chances your 1994 P226 would have the mud rails. Mud rails only appeared on the 1986 and the early 1987 P226s.

Read this article here from the Wayback Machine regarding the "Chicago Mod". Here are the couple of pics from that article showing the Chicago Mod vs the unmod breech block.

I would sell the KE, especially if you need the cash. It will probably bring more money. All Sigs are good so you will still be good with other one.
Unless of course, you are serious collector and must have the German model.

I don’t care about looks, but all things equal I’d avoid 2-tone.

Still, I voted to sell the older one. That’s assuming all things aren’t equal and the 2-tone is a milled slide. The replacement breech blocks and extractors just don’t exist anymore for the old folded slides. And I think the milled guns are just better. Yes, there’s a lot of nostalgia and everyone thinks “West Germany” roll marks imbued magic into the pistol. The milled ones are better. Sell the other one for a premium to someone who values the “W” and keep the practical choice.
