Aside from P210, which Sigs have best potential accuracy

tleddyAside from P210, which Sigs have best potential accuracy
I am a mostly retired precision pistol shooter
(Bullseye) and have accurized 1911s by Clark, Giles, Roseand others, almost all in .45.
What models of Sig can be used for best precision accuracy at 50 yards? I am specifically asking about 9 mm… and yes, I know about the P210 likely being the most accurate out of the box 9 mm.
I am thinking of the striker-fired in particular, since 1911 accuracy enhancements are universal.
Finally, can reliable 3 inch 50 yard 5 shot groupings be achieved?

gs1150riderAt one point the 220 Match Elite was considered the most accurate production pistol in all the land. There were a bunch of articles/discussions about this in the 2010(ish) year range. I cannot disagree.

Pipe SmokerNine or ten years ago a member and several of his buddies shot several SIG pistols from a Ransom Rest. Various Swiss and German P-210s and one German P-226 X5 (L1 model). Several five-shot targets for each pistol. He posted the results here in SIG Pistols. There were no clear winners or losers, but the single best five-shot group was produced by the P-226 X5.
In those days threads vanished after an interval with no additional posts, so that thread is lost. I remember that thread well because at the time I had recently purchased my P-226 X5.

rkentmI have a 1911 Super Target and a classic X5 226 “Black & White” that are both WAY more accurate and capable than I am.
They are both hands down the most accurate SIGs I own.

Jim WatsonFor striker guns in general, Accuracy X will soup up a Glock for better accuracy.
Apex claims 1.5" at 25 yards with Plastic M&P which is not quite the same thing as 3 at 50.

mrprovyIf you're looking a striker fired, your only real Sig option for long distance accuracy is the P320, I would say one of the AGX models

RichardCTangential to your question, tlteddy, but
Atlanta Arms offers several 9MM loads with accuracy claims in your ballpark.
Just FYI.

12131Any of the German Xguns in SAO will do.

ShackSomeone mentioned the 220 Match Elite, I just happened to clean my P220 Super Match(same gun with extended beaver tail..?) last night and had recently tested it at 100 yards. This was my first time with it at the range, I’m not a competition shooter, at rest and not using match grade ammo. It’s quite the shooter.

jimb888The P226 X6 guns German Mastershop are the Sig ultra-high performers for target shooting. That's the 9mm, the P220 X6 is the .45 version. But they are rare and expensive when you do find one.
Regarding the "3 inch 50 yard 5 shot groupings be achieved?" Absolutly. I know a precision shooter who claims to get that not on a rest. If I get that at 25 yards freehand I'm greatful, I know my skill is not up to the 50 yard line. However, my buddy, on a rest at 25 years, literally tightly cloverleafed 4 of the 5 shots with the 5th near, so I know it's possible. The shit-eating grin of happieness on his face as he turned to look back at me at the spotter scope after his 4th shot is burned into my memory.

DanI've shot a P226X5 AR in NRA Action Pistol. Bruce Gray fit a BarSto barrel to it, but honestly I'm not sure that improved the accuracy. On one occasion, while practicing and taking my sweet time, I put a group that was under 5 inches at 50 yard, freehand. I'm sure others could do better. After several thousand rounds extraction became unreliable which was common to that model.
We also had P320s in which 40 cal. slides were fit with oversized 9mm barrels, also BarSto. I still have mine. It shot very very well with V Crown projectiles over Titegroup. I didn't accuracy test at 50 that I can recall, but I did at 25 yards from prone and you'd swear I didn't shoot 5 shots. Remarkable groups.

.38supersigAnother vote for the P220 X-Six and P226 X-Six.
They are both available in 9mm and very accurate.

FenderBenderI'd say the new P365 FLUX with it's 6" barrel and collapsible stock is going to be the most accurate.

BuddyChrystI don’t see how any could beat the P230/232. Unless there’s slide play, the fixed barrel wins.

It’ll be beat by pistols with longer sight span, better trigger.

I disagree. That is shooter dependent. The question is which SIGs have the best potential accuracy. The one where the barrel doesn’t move is the answer.

Pipe Smoker^^^^^^
Ah, I see. You shoot your pistols from a Ransom Rest.

12131^^^^ No, that's not what he's talking about. He's talking about the gun's inherent design, not any external factors. The P230/232's barrel is fixed when firing, meaning it doesn't move like the tilting barrel design of the P220/25/26/27/28/29 series.

Pipe Smoker^^^^^^ Hm…
I suppose that if you mounted the pistols in a Ransom Rest and only observed group size, ignoring group placement, the P-230/232 might win. But I don’t think much useful information would come from that exercise.
IMO accuracy requires both good group size and good group placement. AFAIK all of the major accuracy competitions judge placement.
The lock-up mechanism of SIG locked-breech pistols is damned good. Since the slide bears the sights, good slide-frame fit is important for good group placement. I’ve read that the slide-frame fit of the P-210 is uncommonly good.
So if accuracy requires both good group size and placement, I think that the P-210 would beat the P-230/232.

How did this thread turn into a pissing match about what hammer fired gun is more accurate?
