Guys, can it really be this easy? I love my Shield but don’t love shooting it in .40

Storm Lake Barrel S&W M&P 40 S&W to 9mm Luger Conversion 1 in 16" Twist 4.25" Stainless Steel.

Looking at the reviews they are mixed; me personally for a defensive gun I would just buy a new one.

You can find 9mm shields for about $200... so $160 for a barrel that may or may not work reliably is kinda silly IMO.

^^ This ^^. Gets into a false economy buying a new barrel and mags when an entire gun is inexpensive..........dj

Remember, this is all supposed to be for fun...................

Good feedback guys. I've been looking at "this" for a while, going to test it tomorrow. I especially like the upgraded trigger.

Personally, no ported pistols for me.

Have you ever used a ported pistol?

Back in The 90s a pal of mine had s Springfield V10, which is an officers ACP with ten ports. I shot it one time. That was at an indoor range. The concussion it caused was miserable enough to legitimately give me a headache. I hated it. The fireball produced above the front sight was both distracting and blinding.

Maybe the shield in 9mm wouldn’t be as bad. But really- what’s to gain in porting a 9mm belly gun?

Just my .02

I would think any gain in low flash powder for self defense rounds would be negated firing from a ported pistol.

And, perhaps an invalid concern of mine, is having more openings in the slide for debris to enter.
Perhaps porting has changed from many years ago, more flash than a non ported pistol.

To me, adding a recoil reduction spring system (eg DPMS) is a better feature.

I have a shield in .40 also and it is snappy, I agree. I have also priced the 9mm replacement barrels, I just wish they would come down in price a bit.

It will be a year or two for me before I do anything as my agency hasn't switched to 9mm yet but it is coming, and I have quite a bit of good .40 ammo I need to shoot first.

I owned one of these for a short time. Did not care for it at all. I actually thought the trigger was "too light" for a carry gun. The sights on the gun were the best thing. Just my opinion.
