Been on the hunt for a Dan Wesson in 45acp. I was looking at the Commander Classic as a possibility but the LGS doesn’t have one. They do have the ECP in stock. They let me hold it today is it sure looked and felt nice. Think I like the alloy frame over the stainless for the lighter feel. Does anyone have an ECP to share a thought or opinion on them? Excellent DW for carry. Had mine for awhile, at least a year now, maybe a few months longer. Fit is tight but operates smoothly. Trigger is superb and a comfortable carry. Recoil is easily managed. I did change the grips by switching to fancy wood grips (I like sharp 1911 grips) but the stock G10's are nice and functional. Fine choice if you buy it, be sure to liberally lube during break in (I put 500 through it for break in). The ECP will serve well. “Posterity! Left-Handed, NOT Left-Winged! |
I have the Valor Stainless in Government and V-Bob. I need the ambi safety and I like the overall design of the gun. Personally, I prefer .45 ACP to have a steel frame, alloy frames are best for 9mm.

The ECP is nice, but I’m not a fan of aluminum framed 1911’s

I swear I had something for this |
I'm not sure if I'd want a 29oz .45ACP, but in 9mm that would make a solid CCW pick. Dan Wesson is that point of production guns that get 95% of the way to the semi customs like Wilson Combat or Nighthawk, but for a lot less money. If you're interested in the alloy frame, there's also the Guardian which is a Commander slide (4.25") that uses a bushing instead of the bull barrel of the ECP. I've found even if you start with removing the slide stop first, the bushing guns are still easier to take apart than bull barrel 1911s.

Thanks for the info. Good comments about the bull barrel, something to consider. Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to hold off on bringing home this baby till I figure out my employment situation... I just picked up a TCP in like new condition. Using a paper clip to hold the guide rod for disassembly is no big deal. Don't let that stop you..
