Could a German p245 made in 1998-99 (no import marks) NOT have a date code? Gun is in a friends gun safe but he looked all over and no date code. Not a parts gun. Has original matching numbered case. May be selling soon and don't want to mislead/misinform possible buyer. Is this possible? Ser # starts with C007-xxx. Thank you.

Date code could be on the barrel hood's left side, if it's really German made and proofed. Otherwise, it was assembled here with no proof marks or date code..

Neither proof date nor proof site markings are needed to indicate successful proof test. If the eagle over N is present, then the gun was proof fired in Germany. (G.Wirnsberger, Beschusszeichen, Stuttgart 2011). In the case of the P245, all of them have been made and assembled in Germany. I own one of the pilot series that I received directly from the factory which has the same chararacteristics like the OPs gun.
@ OP. The pistol is in as it was produced condition and made in DE.

Here's mine as detailed in the Serial # list thread --> C005-5XX-KK-1999 = Thanks to nhracecraft

The Proof/Date Code IS on the left side of the Barrel Hood. Wink

Never said they were needed. Marking that identifies a specific proof house (e.g., "antler" [Ulm] or "bug" [Kiel]) is not required. But, the actual proof mark like the "eagle over N" is required by CIP law to be on the gun that was successfully proof tested. Obviously, it was assembled there in ordered to be tested.

But, if there are no proof marks on the gun, then it could not have been assembled there (Germany). It had to have been assembled elsewhere (a non-CIP country like the USA) from German made parts. Plenty of P245 pics available online that show zero proof marks.

Btw, we don't really know what OP has. He mentioned nothing about proof mark.

Since it is a German P245 assembled here, would it be correct that it came new with no test target? I imagine that is correct, but wanted to run it past the experts first. Thanks guys!

So, I take it your P245 doesn't have any proof marks on it?

Yes, US assembled or made SIGs do not come with test target. The only exception I've noticed is the P220 Supermatch that does come with the NH factory test target.

Gun probably has a proof mark on it. I am dealing with an elderly friend 50 miles away so I would rather not try to describe taking my mint Sig handgun apart over the phone. Roll Eyes

Q, the eyeball roll was aimed at a friend possibly damaging my Sig. NOT at any questions or replies here. You are, in my opinion , one of the most renowned Sig experts I have ever 'studied" under. To have my questions answered by someone like you is an honor. Thank you.

From the 2008 batch that was imported by PW Arms? Interesting to note that now, it's the slide that was marked "Made In Germany", whereas the older model had the frame marked such.

I got mine used, so I have no idea what it came with from the factory. S/N (C 006 XXX) is only on the frame, but there are eagle over N proof marks on the barrel hood, slide, and frame. There is also a KK date code on the right side of the barrel hood (it's just below the ejection port opening when the gun is assembled), but not on the slide.

airbubba, I did a double take when I saw that serial number, and had to visit my safe to confirm that I am the current owner of that pistol, purchased from another forum member! It does have PW Arms import marks on the left side of the slide.

That pistol moves a lot! I bought it last November, and hope to keep it for at least a few more years! I used to own a P220 Compact, but found much of my factory .45 ACP ammo from multiple manufacturers was too long to fit into the magazines! That has not been an issue with the older P245 magazines, so my one gripe with the P220's smaller sibling has been resolved!
