Hey all, I am going to ask a really dumb question. A few years ago I inherited a P290. I didn’t give it much thought other than to ensure it was prepped for long-term storage in a dry space. I recently took it out and examined it more closely and realized the magazine springs were weak. My father-in-law kept the mags loaded and the springs were so weak now the slide would not lock open on an empty mag. I suspect they are too weak to even feed rounds but I have not tried. So, I did a quick search and it seems OEM P290 magazines are rare these days because it was discontinued years ago. Is there a reliable source for springs or fresh mags? Laughing in the face of danger is all well and good until danger laughs back.

I still have my P290; haven't bought magazines for it in perhaps 10 years and Gun Mag Warehouse and Greg Cote were sources. They are out of stock; but Cheaper Than Dirt advertises that they have the Pro Mag copies. https://www.cheaperthandirt.co...ines/sig-sauer/p290/ There's always a chance a vendor may have some OEM ones at a gun show.

You could maybe email Wolff springs about new ones. The 290 isn’t on their website but they might have a replacement customerservice@gunsprings.com “You may beat me, but you will never win.” sigmonkey-2020 “ in my opinion, anything that we can do to trigger a potential aneurysm in a leftist is a good thing and worth doing” nhtagmember 2025

Drew - if you talk to Wolff and they have some, please let me know. If they need a minimum purchase, I'll participate for at least half a dozen.

Hi. I recommend you get the Sig P239 spring product from Wolf and use in your P290 8 rounds. For the 6 rounds, you can trim 1 or two loops from the bottom. I replaced all my 12x8 rounds clips springs with the product from Wolf. You can get 1, 3 or 10 still at https://www.gunsprings.com/SIG...239/cID1/mID4/dID256 Although I also have 12x6 rounds clips for my 6 P290 collection, I did not replace those. See below, https://www.amazon.com/photos/...Y-DOb7OlcY0rgxhtL2dM My .380 SS is my EDC for in-house, and my 9mm SS is my EDC for outdoor using 8 rounders all around for a main and spare clips. You can still find OEM 6 or 8 randomly on Gun Broker. Pro Mag have their serious challenges...

Is your P290 a 9mm or .380? I've kept a 9mm loaded for about 10 years or more and it's still going strong. Maybe lucky...it's just stayed loaded and not loaded/unloaded much at all.

As indicated in the pic earlier where I have 5 P290RS 9mm and 1 P290RS .380, I have collected 12 x mag-290-9-6 and 12 x mag-290-9-8 (of which I cycle 2 of 12 every month for my 9mm SS EDC), and I also have collected 4 x mag-290-380-6 and 4 x mag-290-380-8 (of which I cycle 2 of 4 every month for my .380 SS EDC). With the pinky support on the 8 rounds, the 6 rounds have been retired for me as I normally have one 8 in the firearm and a second in a spare clip holster (part of the firearm Commander Pro OWB holster made by Versacarry). As DrewR indicated, test and see if your empty clip have enough spring force to lock your slide back when clip is empty...

I appreciate all of the information and I will be giving the P239 springs a try, thank you. I wish the OEM magazines were a little easier to find because I like to keep four or five spare mags for any firearm I own. Laughing in the face of danger is all well and good until danger laughs back.
