Hello everyone. I purchased a Sig P226 West German CPO and I plan on having it refinished. I was wondering if anyone knows what all parts Sig replaces, if any, in these CPOs. Im just curious if I need to replace anything in the gun before I get it refinished. Thanks.

CPOs can range from having nothing replaced to multiple parts replaced. SIG sometimes gets guns back from LEO departments, especially when they upgrade, that have never been used and, likewise, guns that have been run through the ringer. Even if they’ve never been used, they have to turn them around as a CPO and I’ve seen many that appear NIB. Regardless of what condition they came to SIG in, they go through them thoroughly before they release them as a CPO. In short, you should not have to replace anything. If there is any doubt about a part, they replace it. They do come with a 1 year warranty.

^^^^^This. A fresh CPO should functionally and operationally need nothing. Oftentimes even the state of finish is addressed by SIG as well. Curious...are you refinishing to spiff up a tired looking gun? Or redoing to change up things?

My 229 was a cpo and I’ve carried it and shot the crap out of it for a good 12 years or so. Only thing I changed was grips and sights, and more recently got a Bruce grey trigger, but I’m tempted to put the old one back in, it felt smoother since it was well broken in

Thanks for the replies. I'm just looking at putting a new finish on it to clean up its appearance. It's actually not a bad looking gun, I just want that fresh, clean look I guess.

I do not believe that Sig had a standard they most likely went through the CPO's one by one and replaced what that needed to that was worn out at that time.

If you decide to have it refinished make sure it is properly gone through and inspected. The refinisher should have the expertise and knowledge to replace and parts that are needed.
