| If you have strong hand grip strength, something well north of merely 'firm', its double-action will be fine. But if your grip strength is like my gurly baby hand wimpy strength, the 1500lb DA pull kinda sucks. The gun's weight is less than a centerfire version thanks to lesser mass of its slide. The .22 PPKs that I've shot always seemed to run best with hotter loads like MiniMags or Federal PowerShoks, though a buddy has one that actually runs well with standard velocity ammo. The nice thing about the gun is its relatively small size. Its aesthetic is JB cool, but that hardly matters in a bug out scenario. In the end if I were to go with .22LR I'd rather choose a pistol that's far less picky about the ammo that will run through it, like the S&W M&P 22 Compact.

| If you are looking for a .22lr in the PPK style that performs a lot better than the Walther, take a look for a Beretta Model 70s. They aren't easy to find any more, but they are worth the look. |

| I have had numerous Walther Apps, PPK, PPKs, TPHs, all in 22lr. I've run them all, mostly on standard velocity ammo, with no problems. Do the usual and check the springs and test them. The last one I bought I paid $700 twenty years ago. Cheers

| It depends. Original, made in Germany by Walther is excellent, hard to find, and somewhat expensive. New, made in the states by Walther USA, is a good gun but is not the same as the PPK. A fairly unbiased review is here: https://internationalsportsman...-ppk-s-22-lr-review/I held and handled both, purchased the Bersa Thunder .22, and found it to be a very good pistol. I won’t steer you away from a Walther, but I suggest you handle the Bersa before you buy. |

| Although it doesn't have a threaded barrel you might also look at the Bersa. Mags are pricey unfortunately. Good hunting. |

| We were vacationing in Florida a few years ago. We came across this place called "Alamo" and they had an indoor range. We went in and rented a couple of guns. My wife got a Walther PPQ in .22LR..... This is a full-sized gun. She loved it and now owns one!
Don't look away from the full-sized guns. Taking one out for a spin might change your mind! |
