I posted a “want to buy thread” recently on a local forum and had four members respond with a potential revolver for sale. Some were too far gone and some overpriced but this beauty was perfect in shape and price. After seeing this near mint condition 77/78 example I knew it was the one I wanted. The member who sold it to me was a true gentleman and a pleasure to deal with. I only have a phone photo or two for now but plan to get a few more shots when I’m home in the daytime. Thanks for looking and don’t hesitate to put up those “want to buys”, you never know.

Very nice S&W, that's a classic, for sure. What is your intended usage for this? Do you plan to add a scope to it? Let us know how it shoots.

That’s excellent - congrats!

I concur on the WTB ads - I’ve had some really good transactions from both the buying and selling perspectives thanks to those.

Thank you for the positive comments. It really is in great condition. I carefully removed the grips and side plate this morning and the inside looks as good as the outside. The guy who sold me this also has a Python in just as good condition but my budget won’t allow for it right now.

I have no intention to put a scope on it. I bought it for myself to enjoy at the range and to enhance my collection.

It also came with the wood box but the lining suffered the common fate of coming loose and was pulled out by the original owner. I’m not sure about how to handle that long term but for now my wife lined it with fabric and it looks great.

I’ll include a photo of the job she did below. Thanks again for looking, Brian.

That's a fine revolver. Reminds me that I should take my 629 with an 8 3/8" barrel to the range next outing.

That's a beautiful specimen! Your wife did a great job lining the box, too!

Very nice. The very first pistol I bought was 8 3/8" 629. It was an amazingly accurate gun. Those pictures bring back memories.

Enjoy that beauty.

I once had a blued pre-1979 model Model 29 with 6 1/2" barrel - wish I'd kept it.

Nice!

I have blue one that length in 29-5 believe. Last of the square butt models but has the enhancement engineering. It took a long time to find but that’s the fun of collecting guns, The hunt.

Wow! Eek

Simply beautiful!

I have a 629 Classic Champion with 6 1/2" barrel, matte stainless finish, non-fluted cylinder. Wish it looked anywhere near close to your new acquisition! Cool

Very nice. I have a 29-2 6.5" that I bought a few years back in "unfired" condition. It has definitely been fired since. :-) Fun guns.

Very nice looking revolver.

I had always wanted one of the longer barreled Model 29s, but I wante one after the Endurance Package modifications were added to the Model 29

I acquired one of the 10 5/8" barrels, but never found a donor frame that met my needs at a price I could afford

I picked up a lovely 6 incher here in Indiana awhile back. I'd have preferred an 8 inch barrel but this thing was beautiful, had a nice leupold scope, and several boxes of ammo at a very good price.
I was trying to dial in for last fall's deer season, and discovered the front scope lense was cracked. Imagine my disappointment. It has never been dropped or abused, so I'm going to say it was concussion.
